Pokémon GO has given insight into the upcoming raid bosses. Four different legendary Pokémon await you in September – two of them haven’t been in raids since 2018.
What’s new: Niantic has provided a great overview of the events in September. In addition to Spotlight hours, breakthroughs, and Victini, there was also information about the raid bosses.
In September, there are 4 bosses waiting for you:
- Heatran
- Cresselia
- Articuno
- Zapdos
We’ll let you know which bosses are worth it and how long they will stay.
Heatran – A mighty Fire Pokémon?
How long will Heatran stay? The legendary Pokémon is already appearing in raids. It will remain until September 10, making way for the next boss.
Is Heatran worth it? As a Fire attacker, Heatran is solid, but it performs worse compared to other Fire Pokémon. The reason for this is its weak attacks.
Heatran is available as Shiny. So if you haven’t got a Shiny yet, you should go on a Shiny hunt. It’s not necessarily essential as a strong attacker.
Cresselia – A monster for the PvP league
How long will Cresselia stay? The legendary Pokémon will replace Heatran directly on September 10 at 10 PM. It will then stay for about a week until September 18 at 10 PM.
Is Cresselia worth it? For raids and gym battles, Cresselia is quite useless. It is a Psychic type and has a lot of competition there that it cannot stand up against.
However, for the PvP league, Cresselia is really good. Especially in the Hyper League, it is among the best monsters and can significantly strengthen your team.
Moreover, Cresselia can be Shiny. So you can go on a Shiny hunt if you don’t yet have the legendary Pokémon in its shiny version. Otherwise, it mainly pays off for PvP fans.
Articuno – A long-lost returnee
How long will Articuno stay? The legendary Pokémon replaces Cresselia on September 18 and remains until September 25, so for exactly one week.
Is Articuno worth it? Articuno is likely to please many newcomers. It was last seen in raids almost exactly 2 years ago. After that, it could still be obtained through research breakthroughs and by battling Giovanni in its Shadow version.
However, you only had a great chance of getting Shiny Articuno in raids. If you didn’t get a Shiny there, you needed luck in the breakthrough or have been out of luck ever since. Now you get another chance for a week.
Articuno is a solid Ice attacker, and if you don’t have a good Mamoswine or Snorunt, you should definitely consider using Articuno.
Zapdos – The second bird as a returnee
How long will Zapdos stay? The legendary Pokémon arrives directly after Articuno on September 25 at 10 PM. It will then stay until October 2 at 10 PM. So you also have exactly one week here.
Is Zapdos worth it? The legendary Pokémon has been absent for just as long as Articuno. The last time you could catch it was in the summer of 2018, and after that, it could only be obtained through research breakthroughs or by battling Giovanni.
So if you still don’t have a Shiny here, you can finally take your chance and challenge Zapdos multiple times.
From a usability perspective, Zapdos is a solid Electric attacker. There are better alternatives like Raikou, Zekrom, and Electivire, but if you like variety, you can also go for Zapdos.
