Where and how do you get the Shiny Pokémon? In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you can get a Shiny Mareep when you complete a specific side mission. So you don’t have to search forever and hope that it appears eventually.
To get the Shiny Mareep, you need to do the following:
- Complete the main mission 08
- Find the Trainer Sofina in Wilderness Sector 1
- Take the side quest 017 with the name “A Shiny Mareep?” from her
- The desired Mareep is located in the same sector when you climb a ladder – you can’t miss it
- There, you will see a herd of normal Mareep, and directly behind them is the Shiny variant
- Turn in the quest at Sofina and then catch the Shiny Mareep

What are Shinies anyway? Shinies are differently colored variants of the normal designs and are also called Shiny Pokémon. They are extremely rare and often not easy to catch. Accordingly, they are highly sought after by trainers and a common target. You need to show patience and skill when hunting for them.
How can you recognize Shinies? First of all, by their different color compared to the “normal” and more common variant of the Pokémon. They are often surrounded by a kind of “sparkle,” making them stand out better when you encounter them.
Can you increase the chance of finding Shinies? Yes, you need a so-called Shiny Charm. A pendant that you receive when you complete Mable’s research. When you wear it, Shinies appear more frequently in the wild.
What else should you watch out for? As always, when you want to catch a Pokémon you desire, you should be careful not to accidentally knock it out. If you see a Shiny, it’s better to save beforehand before you attack and play it safe in battle.
