Why is there Shiny Voltorb? The new Shiny was introduced during the Safari Zone in Philadelphia event. This took place last weekend and gave ticket holders the chance to catch many Shinies.
With its introduction through the Safari Zone, it also came to the game worldwide. So you can now catch it anywhere.

How do you get the Pokémon? Currently, the Nostalgia Challenge in Pokémon GO is running, and until the end of May, Pokémon from each generation are appearing in the game. The first generation, including the generation of Voltorb, has already been featured. Therefore, you will likely not encounter Voltorb in the wild until the end of the month.
However, there are other ways to get the new Shiny:
- The quest “Land 5 great throws” includes Voltorb
- The quest “Take a snapshot of an Electric Pokémon” includes Voltorb
- Voltorb appears in nests – so keep an eye out for it
How rare is Shiny Voltorb? The probability of a Shiny is likely 1 in 450. This is the case with every normal Shiny in the wild. So you need some luck if you want to quickly snag the new Shiny.
Will the chances get better soon? With the end of the Nostalgia Challenge, Pokémon spawns will return to normal. Voltorb appears every now and then, but it is not incredibly frequent.
So, you primarily have to hope for events if you want good chances for Shiny Voltorb. So far, however, no events have been announced that could include Voltorb. The next event will be the Smoke Day with Kanivanha.
