In Pokémon GO the trading function was down for more than 24 hours. The developers had to disable it due to a major bug, meaning players could not trade anymore. Now the feature is active again and Niantic shows how they plan to make up for the outage.
What caused the outage? In the early morning of January 20, the support team for Pokémon GO posted a tweet announcing that the trading function had to be disabled. Trainers on reddit revealed the reason behind it.
On the morning of January 21, the support team announced that they had fixed the error and the trading function is now active again. So you can trade again from now on. Niantic wants to make up for the outage and compensate you. There will be a trading bonus for this.
150 trades per day – What Niantic says about the outage
This is the compensation: Until January 24 at 7:00 PM, you can trade 150 Pokémon per day.
This is what Niantic says: In a tweet, the support writes: “Trainers, we have fixed the bug affecting trades. The feature is now active again. We have increased the maximum number of trades per day to 150. This increase will remain active until January 24 at 7:00 PM to make up for the lost time in trading and earning XL candies. Thank you for your patience.”
How are players reacting? In the comments under the tweet, some players are demanding even more compensation. They are requesting:
- More special trades per day, as trainers lost one during the outage
- Increased trading distance
- Worldwide lucky trades
On reddit, many trainers are focusing on the lost special trade. There are complaints that the 100 trades per day were already annoying. “I wish you could select about 10 Pokémon to trade at once,” writes impulsenine on reddit. Another user says (via reddit): “It would be nice if you could make more than one special trade during that period. To make up for not getting the XL candies from the lost special trade. Because I won’t trade 150 times.”
Why was the trading function disabled?
This is what happened: The reason for the deactivation of the trading function is presumably that the lucky friend status was not lifted. Although Niantic did not directly communicate that this was the reason for the deactivation, it is very likely.
About an hour before the trading function was disabled, trainers on reddit showcased the huge “luck” they had. Together they were able to trade 100 Pokémon, and all became lucky Pokémon.
