In Pokémon GO you can currently take advantage of a strong bonus with the eggs, which is even better than planned. But: This will only be available for a short time.
What kind of bonus is this? Currently, the New Year’s event for the start of 2024 is running in Pokémon GO. It runs until January 3, 2024, at 8:00 PM. The event brings two bonuses for eggs:
- Half the hatching distance for all eggs that you place in incubators during the event
- Quarter hatching distance for the first three eggs that you hatch during the event using the Pokémon egg widget (more on this below).
Why is the bonus broken? The announcement of the event (via pokemongolive.com) clarifies: “The bonuses will not stack”. But as it turns out, they do stack.
This means: If you currently place, for example, a 10 km egg in an incubator via the egg widget, it won’t need 2.5 km, but half of that: namely 1.3 km. This also works with other eggs.
Attention, important: The quarter bonus still only applies to the first 3 eggs it affects. So you should make sure not to waste it on the wrong eggs.
Some trainers also report that the connection works even if you don’t go through the egg widget but just go through the regular egg screen (via reddit). This means: You should be careful when selecting your eggs, so you actually shorten the distances that are worth it – and not use 2 km or 5 km eggs.
How does the egg widget work in Pokémon GO?
What is the egg widget? The egg widget is a small feature that you can set up on the home screen of your iOS or Android devices. There, you can track the hatching progress of your eggs and place new eggs in incubators,

Here’s how to add the egg widget: The exact method depends on your device.
- On iOS: Here you need to long-press on a free area of the screen until the apps wiggle – as if you want to delete or move something. Now tap the “Plus” at the top left and you can then add the Pokémon GO widget.
- On Android: Here you also tap on an empty area and then select “Widgets”. Now you can choose the Pokémon GO widget and place it on your home screen.
