On December 16, 2021, the Holiday Event starts in Pokémon GO and finally brings you a special Pokémon for free after a year. We at MeinMMO have looked into which monster it is and how you can obtain it.
What kind of event is it? Every year, a Holiday Event in Pokémon GO takes place to celebrate the upcoming Christmas holidays and the New Year. This year, there will also be this celebration from December 16 to December 31. During this event, you will receive a special Pokémon for the first time for free.
You will receive this monster for free for the first time
In December of last year, the Frost Weekend took place in Pokémon GO. This brought you a special research related to the new Pokémon Galarian Mr. Mime. However, not every Trainer could secure this monster, as the quests were only unlocked by purchasing an event ticket.
Trainers who were not willing to pay the price for this ticket could not encounter this monster. In the past, there have also been special Pokémon encounters for other events that required a ticket purchase, such as with Regigigas. However, these were shortly made available for free to all Trainers.
However, this was different for Galarian Mr. Mime. Trainers have been waiting for a free release for a year and were worried that Niantic had forgotten the Pokémon. But now all players can be excited because Galarian Mr. Mime can finally be caught for free in Pokémon GO in a few days.
Galarian Mr. Mime – How you can catch it
The upcoming Holiday Event again has two separate parts for you. In the second section of this celebration, which starts on December 23, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. local time, you will have the opportunity to finally encounter free specimens of Galarian Mr. Mime after a year.
For this part of the Holiday Event, Niantic has reportedly planned two limited-time research tasks focusing on friendship and catching monsters (via pokemongolive.com). At the end, you should receive an encounter with Galarian Mr. Mime as a reward in both.
The free Galarian Mr. Mimes are thus initially limited to two specimens. Whether Niantic will introduce this monster through other means afterwards is currently unknown.

In the reddit community, Trainers are already excited about the upcoming event. JRE47 is generally looking forward to the spawns of the Holiday Event and stated that they do not want to miss out on Galarian Mr. Mime (via reddit.com).

What kind of Pokémon is Galarian Mr. Mime?
Galarian Mr. Mime is an Ice and Psychic-type Pokémon and can evolve into Mr. Rime. While this Galarian form was previously only available through the special research “What’s that knocking?”, its alternative form, which is Psychic and Fairy-type, spawns exclusively in Europe.
You can recognize Galarian Mr. Mime by its white shirt with blue sleeves and a light blue tie. It also wears blue shoes and white gloves. Unlike regular Mr. Mime, it maintains an upright posture.
While Mr. Mime aims to impress with its pantomime, Galarian Mr. Mime and its evolution Mr. Rime are out in the tap dance world, which is why they are also referred to as dance Pokémon.
Is there a Shiny Galarian Mr. Mime? The shiny form of Galarian Mr. Mime and its evolution are currently not available in Pokémon GO.
Is Galarian Mr. Mime worth it?
How strong is Galarian Mr. Mime? The Ice and Psychic Pokémon has the two fast attacks Confusion and Zen Headbutt. As charged attacks, it can learn the following moves: Psybeam (Psychic), Psychic (Psychic), and Ice Punch (Ice). However, its stats are rather average, making it not very relevant in raids and the PvP league (via pvpoke.com).
Mr. Rime, the evolution of Galarian Mr. Mime, can learn the fast attack Ice Shard and the charged attack Blizzard in addition to the moves of its pre-evolution. Its stats are slightly better than those of Galarian Mr. Mime, but it still does not rank among the best attackers in Pokémon GO.
Is Galarian Mr. Mime worth it? You should definitely secure this monster for your Pokédex entry. However, to use it in raids or the GO Battle League, Galarian Mr. Mime and Mr. Rime are less suitable. You should rather rely on better alternatives like Mamoswine or Mewtwo.
