What kind of task is this? Over the weekend, from July 1st to 3rd, the big GO Fest in Berlin takes place. In celebration of this live event, Pokémon GO will unlock a special global challenge for you.
This is a task that you must complete together as a community. And you should definitely give it a try. We will show you below why it can be worthwhile for you.
Update, July 1st, 2022, 09:00 AM: The global challenge has started. All players in the world must defeat 15,000,000 Rocket Grunts. The bonus is: Double stardust from Rocket battles.

The global challenge for GO Fest in Berlin
What do you need to do? Together with other trainers from around the world, you should defeat Team GO Rocket members as part of the global challenge. However, how many need to be defeated is not yet known. As soon as this information is available, we will update it here in the article.
Who is allowed to participate? Unlike the other bonuses during the GO Fest in Berlin, all trainers worldwide can participate in the global challenge. No event ticket is required, and you do not need to be in Berlin.
How much time do you have? The task starts for all players on July 1st at 09:00 AM German time. You can complete the challenge until July 3rd at 06:00 PM German time.

That’s why the global challenge is worthwhile
If you manage to complete the global challenge in time, then you can earn additional Hyper Bonuses for the upcoming event. In the past years, you could secure these Hyper Bonuses for GO Fest and then received a separate event for it. Pokémon GO changed this in 2022.
This way you get several opportunities to earn these bonuses and enhance other events. Additionally, you can benefit from an extra bonus during the Berlin GO Fest if you complete the task before the planned end. Look forward to the following bonuses:
- double stardust when defeating Team GO Rocket for the remaining time of the challenge
- additional bonus for the anniversary event from July 6th to 12th
- additional bonus for the battle weekend from July 9th to 10th
What could these bonuses be? At the start of GO Fest in early June, you could already earn a Hyper Bonus for Adventure Week. This gave you an additional research day with Shieldon and Shuckle, where you could also encounter the two new monsters Balgores and Amarino in the wild. You were also able to encounter the Egg from this event in raids.
The title image of the anniversary event hints at the silhouette of Grillmak. This Pokémon is making its shiny debut during the GO Fest in Berlin and is available for ticket holders for the first time. Therefore, it is possible that upon reaching the global challenge, everyone will have access to Shiny Grillmak.
However, these are just speculations. What additional content will actually be made available to you for the anniversary event and the battle weekend remains to be seen for now.
Are there additional bonuses for all trainers during the GO Fest in Berlin?
Yes, the global challenge is not the only bonus that will be made available for all trainers during the GO Fest in Berlin. So if you don’t have an event ticket, you can still look forward to the following bonuses from July 1st, 09:00 AM to July 3rd, 06:00 PM German time:
- Selection of wild spawns that will also be present at GO Fest in Berlin
- Collector’s challenge
The exact Pokémon that will spawn and which of them you will need for the collector’s challenge are not known yet.
