In Pokémon GO, you can now encounter sleeping Snorlax! These special Pokémon can learn an exclusive move when caught.
What kind of event is this? At the annual Pokémon press conference, Niantic’s CEO, John Hanke, announced an event centered around Snorlax.
You have until Monday at 11 PM to encounter sleeping Snorlax in the wild. According to Niantic, these Pokémon are resting for an exciting summer.
Sleeping Snorlax – What You Need to Know
How do I get these Snorlax? Snorlax spawn all over the wild. Their spawn rate is increased, so they’re almost around every corner.
When you encounter Snorlax, it will be sleeping at first. The first 2 Poké Balls cannot catch Snorlax. Starting from the third ball, it will count. The catch rate of the Pokémon is significantly increased, but it can still flee. Players report a 1% chance of Snorlax fleeing. So, use a berry and also a Ultra Ball.
What makes Snorlax special? Once you have caught Snorlax, it will wake up. You can then use it normally in battles.
Additionally, these Snorlax know the move Yawn. However, it is meant to be a joke, as Yawn does not deal damage and is quite useless.
Has this happened before? This surge of Snorlax is comparable to the surge of Alolan Marowak, which appeared almost exactly a year ago in the game.
However, such an increased spawn rate for Snorlax has never been seen before. In some events, Snorlax’s appearance was slightly increased.
Is the Snorlax hunt worth it? Although Snorlax only knows Yawn as a Fast Move, the hunt is still worth it. Snorlax is one of the best defenders in the game, and with a TM, Snorlax can learn a better move. This event is especially great for stocking up on candy.
