Currently, the Rocket takeover is happening in Pokémon GO with Kaumalat as the highlight. But it’s hiding quite well.
What’s happening in Pokémon GO? The Rocket takeover is currently flooding your game with a lot of Rocket grunts. The villains appear at stops and in balloons to be defeated by you.
These Rockets are assigned to different types. There is the Normal Rocket, the Ghost Rocket, the Fire Rocket, and so on. But one in particular is worth it right now: the Dragon Rocket.
What does the Dragon Rocket bring? The Dragon Rocket comes with the new Crypto-Kaumalat, which could currently be considered the highlight of the Rocket takeover. Because the little dragon evolves into the powerful Crypto-Knakrack – a monster that everyone should secure. It is among the best attackers in Pokémon GO.
But unfortunately, it’s not that easy.
Pokémon GO rarely reveals the Dragon Grunt
What’s the problem? It is random which Rocket types you encounter at stops or in balloons. You can only recognize who is out there when you approach the Rockets. Then you usually recognize the type by a phrase from the grunt. For the Dragon Trainer, that’s the phrase “Good roaring is half the battle.”.
But don’t be surprised if you haven’t read the phrase yet and thus haven’t encountered Crypto-Kaumalat – because the Dragon Grunt is notoriously rare.

- “I feel like I find one after every 50 grunts, but I’ve defeated 200 grunts since the event started and I’m still waiting to see one,” says a user (via reddit).
- “It’s very rare. Maybe 1 in 50 Rockets has the Dragons,” comments another (via reddit).
- “In the past, it was even less” (via reddit).
- “I received one in a balloon this morning, so they’re out there. I was very surprised to get one so quickly; I thought I would wait weeks to get one. It’s a shame it was just a 0/2/0 Kaumalat, but you can’t have it all,” (via reddit).
There is currently no exact number for when and where you can expect a Dragon Grunt – you really have to rely on chance at the moment.
So you need a lot of luck to collect the current highlight of the event. It’s worth checking every Rocket in the vicinity briefly and checking for the right phrase – because you never know when the next Dragon Grunt will appear.
