“FragPunk” wants to do quite a few things differently in the realm of hero shooters. Whether the experiment works, you can decide for yourself at the beginning of October – that’s when the closed beta is set to begin on Steam.
What kind of game is this? “FragPunk” is an online shooter developed by Bad Guitar Studio. In short 5v5 matches, players battle not only with different heroes and firearms, but also with powerful cards.
“FragPunk” is set to be released for both PC on Steam and Xbox. However, the developers have not yet announced a release date.

No round should play the same
What makes the game special? “FragPunk” aims to stand out from other hero shooters like Overwatch 2 and Valorant with an extensive card deck. Before each round, your team can choose from three of over 70 cards.
The abilities you gain through your cards range from simple damage boosts to more elaborate match modifiers. With one card, you can prevent the opposing team from healing. In the trailer, this card disables one of the opponent’s cards, which would otherwise have allowed them to heal their teammates with shots.
With certain cards, you can even influence the weather on the map. If you want to obscure your opponents’ vision, you can summon a thick fog. Rain and snow also seem to be options, though it is unclear from the trailer how the weather might affect gameplay in this case.
Thanks to various interaction possibilities with and between the cards, no match, which lasts about 2.5 minutes, should play the same way. Whether it will ultimately be fun, you can try out for yourself in a closed beta at the beginning of October. You can already sign up for this on Steam.
