The slow, sleepy realm in WoW Classic can now access Ahn’Qiraj. For Cortyn, this is the “true” WoW Classic.
Currently, there is little happening in World of Warcraft Classic. Many players are already tired of Ahn’Qiraj. Numerous characters have already obtained their “Best in Slot” items and are craving new content in the form of the final Naxxramas update or even The Burning Crusade. But a small realm is just now experiencing Ahn’Qiraj – the German realm Celebras.
What has happened? Nearly three months after the release of the patch that brought the Ahn’Qiraj raid, the last realm has finally been able to open its gates. The German RP server Celebras is thus the last Classic realm to complete the biggest event from WoW Classic. Only now can players there dive into the raid and face the Old God C’thun.
Some players from other realms scoff at this. There was no large gathering effort beforehand. No big Excel sheets that calculated the participation of all guilds in advance. There were neither major conspiracies during farming nor killer squads to stop opposing players. No panic about who opens the gate first. No threats for wanting to play Shadowlands.
All this negativity and destructive energy is missing.
What is so different about Celebras? Celebras was a realm that was opened only after much begging and pleading. The German role-playing community wanted a German-speaking realm, and one came – weeks after the release of Classic. This led to only a portion of the players switching to this realm. The influx of newcomers had almost entirely dried up there.
The result is that Celebras now has an extremely small player base. It is estimated that Celebras has about 500 active players. That’s so few that some websites for tracking player numbers don’t even list Celebras. The remaining players are either role-players, casual evening gamers, or a mix of both – at least, that’s my impression.
Is the realm really dead? What sounds like a nightmare and a dead realm now, however, is quite different for most players there. The community is tight-knit, almost everyone knows each other. There are very few bots, and boosting ads in the various channels are almost non-existent – as there is no market for it.
Yes, searching for groups takes longer. Those who want to go into a dungeon might spend half or two hours searching for members. But honestly? That’s how it was “back then” in Vanilla too.
In a way, Celebras is thus the most classic of all Classic realms. A bit out of time, a bit smaller and significantly sleepier than all other servers. Yet this realm is for me the only one that comes close to a “real” classic experience and the last reason why I still occasionally log into Classic. I don’t do it often, but when I do, it feels like the WoW Classic you all dreamed of.
I hope Celebras stays like this for a long time.
Perhaps even the “WoW Grandpa” would feel at home here, who reached rank 13 at the age of 73 …
