Players who play Pokémon GO rely on other trainers for certain features. This is difficult when no one is playing nearby. Fortunately, one can rely on the online community.
In Pokémon GO, there are many features that can only be fully utilized with multiple players. One doesn’t even need to look at the challenging Gigantamax battles – even the basic gym feature in Pokémon GO is hardly usable when there are few or no players around.
But one player apparently has it a lot harder: As user Sea-Of-Bitterness-MK
reports in the subreddit for Pokémon GO, it seems that really no one plays Pokémon GO nearby. In the comments, he explains that he lives in Afghanistan.
There are basically no gyms, PokéStops, or anything around me
, the player recounts in his post. Hardly any Pokémon appear as well. He just checks every few hours to see if one has popped up: I have been playing for a week and I’m at level 15 with 76 Pokémon
.
However, through the post, the user suddenly is not so alone anymore: Because the community from the rest of the world is rallying to help him.
Users want to help from a distance to play the game better
What are other players doing? In the comments, many people report that they want to help the player to be able to play more.
But how does that work? How can one play with others when it seems likely that one is the only player over many kilometers?
The number one measure is friend codes: They exchange them to send gifts to each other, thus obtaining items and especially leveling up. Because friendships are a great way to collect XP. People from San Diego, Portland, London, and other places immediately report in the comments, wanting to play together with the user and send gifts.
By pinning postcards from gifts, the user could also secure some Purmel to gather more Pokémon.
Several people point out that the user should engage with Wayfarer. The user should start submitting PokéStops in his neighborhood as soon as he has built up the necessary level through friendships. This way, he could theoretically build a map full of POIs if things go well.
How that can work was discussed with a trainer in 2023: The user had been playing for six and a half years in Italy and faced the problem of having hardly any players and especially no POIs nearby. Over the years, he built a very full network of stops and gyms through Wayfarer.
How is it in your area? Even in this country, there are enough places where hardly any players are out and about. Then one desperately searches for the next gym to take over or for people to complete the next difficult raid. There was also an interesting case recently regarding an arena that is hardly found and therefore has housed Pokémon for a very long time.
