Crunchyroll offers some of its anime series for free, but most newer animes require a subscription. In May, the streaming service temporarily lifts this restriction and grants access to 12 anime series that usually require payment. Among them are two highlights that no fan should miss.
Which highlights are meant? Last autumn, the anime for Frieren was released. It is considered the best anime of all time. Until now, viewers had to subscribe to watch all 28 episodes, but starting tomorrow, May 1, 2024, the animes will be available for free for a limited time.
In the following quarter, that is, the upcoming season, Solo Leveling followed. The anime, which is actually based on a South Korean manhwa, was celebrated by many fans. Our MeinMMO author Niko Hernes may not fully understand the hype, but on Crunchyroll, the anime approaches a nearly perfect rating of 4.9/5 stars.
You should definitely not miss Frieren if you haven’t seen the anime yet. The following trailer shows why:
12 Animes for free in May, including many hidden gems
Which other animes are free? Besides Frieren and Solo Leveling, there are more animes where you can save on the subscription cost of at least 6.99 Euros. Crunchyroll has listed all the series available for free starting tomorrow:
- Bungo Stray Dogs
- Chainsaw Man
- Dr. Stone
- Frieren – After the Journey’s End
- Heaven Official’s Blessing
- Hell’s Paradise
- Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid
- Rent-a-Girlfriend
- Solo Leveling
- Tokyo Ghoul
- Tokyo Revengers
- Vinland Saga
The animes come from different genres, so there should be something for every fan. After the promotion, the series will likely return to the paid program, which costs at least 6.99 Euros per month.
How long will the series be free? All mentioned animes will be available for free on Crunchyroll until May 31, 2024. If you want to watch all the anime series, you need to hurry.
Both Frieren and Solo Leveling currently have 40 episodes. There are also animes with multiple seasons. Dr. Stone has 59 episodes across three seasons and a special. So if you want to watch all 12 series, you should create a strict schedule. Only then can you fit all the animes in time.
MeinMMO author Jasmin Beverungen would have recommended another anime, but unfortunately it is not included in the free month: New anime impresses with a young pharmacist and I look forward to each new episode
