In the week from April 19 to April 25, new beta launches and releases for MMORPGs were announced. We at MeinMMO summarize all the important news of the week for you.
The highlights of the week: This week there were 2 interesting news items regarding new MMORPGs:
- Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis has announced its global release. It is already planned for June 2021. A beta will take place from May 14 to May 16.
- In Swords of Legends Online, the alpha starts next week. Some information about the beta (expected at the end of May) and the release has also been shared.
These two games usher in the MMORPG summer of 2021, with Elyon hosting a beta in May (May 6 to May 10) and the beta of New World scheduled for July.
The controversy of the week: Amazon has halted work on the Lord of the Rings MMO. There were reportedly contractual issues between Amazon and the Chinese giant Tencent. The article received over 72 comments from our readers.

The largest MMORPG in the world is getting a visual makeover
This week in the major MMORPGs:
- In WoW in the USA, certain words are now automatically censored. We tested if this is also the case in Germany.
- In The Elder Scrolls Online, the expansion Blackwood has been released on the test server. However, players are not celebrating the general new content, but a small change to an NPC.
- Guild Wars 2 is getting its final patch of the Icebrood Saga next week. You can find the trailer on YouTube. This concludes the current Living World and there will be a transition to the upcoming expansion “End of Dragons”. We will likely learn how exactly that will look next week.
- FFXIV received the first part of patch 5.5 last week. This week, however, there were details about the upcoming Fan Festival. A preliminary schedule was released (via MMORPG.com).
- In Black Desert, there were only smaller events this week. However, we at MeinMMO conducted an interview with the developers about the future of Black Desert.
- The MMORPG Dungeon Fighter Online is huge in Asia, even though hardly anyone knows it here. Now it is getting a big remake, which some fans in the West would probably also wish for WoW.
What happened with the smaller MMORPGs:
- RuneScape is finally coming to smartphones. This summer, the mobile version will be available to everyone after years of development (via MassivelyOP).
- The new SWTOR patch 6.3 will be released on April 27 (via Twitter).
- Wurm Online is an old MMORPG that has now introduced a new update. The introduction of some new animals, including donkeys as mounts, is planned (via MassivelyOP).
- Aion has released patch 7.9. This brought a redesign of the legions, the return of Pangaea, and a new dungeon (via Aion).
New World brings back open-world PvP
This week in developing MMORPGs:
- New World has released a new alpha update. In addition to 2 new dungeons and a weapon, new content for PvP in the open world has also been introduced. However, PvP remains optional.
- The MMORPG Tower of Fantasy looks visually similar to Genshin Impact and a lot of gameplay has now been shown.
- The sandbox MMO Fractured will soon begin a new alpha test. You can get access without needing to buy the game (via MassivelyOP).
