Actually, all gamers want as high FPS as possible, but in the new hero shooter Marvel Rivals, this can be a disadvantage.
What is this disadvantage? Currently, there is a bug in Marvel Rivals that worsens your latency if you have a powerful gaming PC. This means your ping increases the more frames per second (FPS) you have in the hero shooter.
A competitor with weaker hardware can therefore have a slight advantage over you, as they have a lower ping.
A user on X.com noted the following values:
- 30 FPS – 33 Ping
- 60 FPS 41 Ping
- 110 FPS – 46 Ping
- unlimited FPS – 66 Ping
To test the bug with different FPS, he limited the frame rate to the specified values.
Although Season 1 of Marvel Rivals started on January 10, there has not been a fix for the bug so far. MyMMO editor Dariusz was able to confirm the bug with a test on January 13 and came up with similar values to the X user – albeit slightly different.
Here you can watch the trailer for the first season of Marvel Rivals:
What is the benefit of a high frame rate? FPS describes your frame rate, that is, the number of images displayed in one second. At 60 FPS, that’s 60 images per second. The more FPS you have, the more images you can see per second – provided you have a monitor with a suitable Hertz value.
Especially e-sports players and competitive gamers strive for as many FPS as possible because a high frame rate allows you to see your opponent and other important details faster. Many gamers also perceive games with high FPS as smoother.
In competitive games, including Marvel Rivals, it is therefore only logical for many gamers to turn down the graphics slightly in order to have more FPS.
Should you now give up FPS for better latency? That depends entirely on you and your gaming preferences. The increase in latency is not as high if you don’t play with an unlimited frame rate. So it’s best to try a few FPS limits and find a value where both the latency and the FPS meet your requirements.
If you’re unsure what value to limit your FPS to, you can refer to the Hertz value of your monitor. For example, these are 60, 144, 170, 240, or 360 Hertz. In Marvel Rivals, you can easily limit the FPS in the settings. You can also set the maximum FPS in your graphics card software and thereby extend its lifespan: With a simple setting, you can extend the life of your graphics card.
