In Lost Ark, engravings play an important role in enhancing your character. However, one engraving is quite curious. You need to spam exclamation points to receive a proper damage buff. So if someone in your group is spamming the chat, they might have to do that.
What kind of engraving is this? The engraving is named Focused Sight and provides a significant buff. When the player types a message containing “!!!!!” in the chat, they increase the damage of their next ability by 8% at the first level and up to 28% at level 3. The buff is halved when you use an Awakening ability.
The engraving then has a cooldown of 30 seconds before the player has to spam the chat again.
So if you have a player in the group who constantly writes sentences with exclamation points in the chat, they are not a troll, but buffing their damage.

How is the engraving received? In-game, the engraving has led to some curious situations. The user Tlim pointed it out on reddit after he obtained it himself, and it apparently caused some confusion in the Lost Ark chat. He writes:
I found myself in a dilemma. Is it worth being “that guy” who spams anime quotes in the chat every 30 seconds? Definitely!
The only problem I have is that random group members seem to be unaware of the existence of the engraving and therefore are calling me out for spamming the chat. Sorry, dude, it’s a game mechanic!
I thought I could perhaps raise a bit of awareness about the existence of this ability because, let’s be honest: It’s freaking funny.

On reddit, this special engraving is well-received. Many ideas are shared in the comments about what one could spam in the chat to activate the bonus effect, including:
- Let’s get dangerous!!!!!
- I’m sorry!!!!!
- The game makes me do this!!!!!
- Never gonna give you up!!!!!
One user also reports that the engraving has become such a meme in Korea that players even spam sentences with five exclamation points in the chat, although they don’t even have the engraving active.
Engravings strengthen your character, but also require some luck
What are engravings? With engravings, you can improve certain aspects of your character. However, you need to upgrade them by 5 to 15 points to unlock the bonuses.
To obtain the special engraving Focused Sight, you need to activate certain books that you can buy from the marketplace.
