Coming soon is the livestream for Patch 2.3 of Genshin Impact. This update seems to only feature male characters, and even players who usually prefer female figures are totally celebrating it. MeinMMO reports for you on why the two new male heroes and the patch are so popular.
Which two new characters are we talking about? It’s about the muscular Arataki Itto and the cute Gorou. When Genshin Impact announced the two heroes on Twitter some time ago, it took no more than 30 minutes, and they were already trending with thousands of tweets.
The two collected retweets and likes in record time, outpacing the announcement of the universally popular female character Raiden Shogun. While Raiden had gathered around 24,000 retweets and 90,000 likes (via Twitter), Itto already has 103,000 retweets and 259,000 likes (via Twitter).
Gorou had been able to gather more interactions than Raiden Shogun, but Genshin deleted the old tweets from him and wrote new ones, as they changed something about Gorou’s artwork (via Twitter). As a result, he currently only has about 9,000 retweets and 75,000 likes (via Twitter).
The last two announcements regarding upcoming female characters were also not rated as strongly as Itto’s and Gorou’s. Priestess Kokomi managed just 15,000 retweets and 72,000 likes (via Twitter), while Fireworks Master Yoimiya at least garnered 34,000 retweets and 131,000 likes (via Twitter).
However, there is a third in the hyped male group: Albedo is likely to return in Patch 2.3. Previously, there were only leaks and speculations, but Albedo is visible in Genshin Impact’s announcement tweet, making a rerun very likely (via Twitter).
For another character named Tartaglia in Patch 2.2, it was the same. He was seen as an announcement and also received a rerun.
When and where is the livestream? The livestream will take place on November 12 at 1 PM. It will be streamed on Genshin Impact’s Twitch channel (via Twitch).
Reasons for the hype of the two new male characters
Why are players excited about the male heroes? There could be three main reasons for the joy about the characters. The first is probably that since the release of Inazuma, there haven’t been any new male 5-star figures, which is why the hype around Itto is so big.
Thoma is the first hero, who, besides women,
- Raiden Shogun,
- Ayaka,
- Yoimiya,
- Sara,
- Sayu
- and Kokomi
was introduced as a new male 4-star character in Patch 2.2. He also earned quite a bit of fame and hype by collecting around 47,000 retweets and 145,000 likes on Twitter (via Twitter). This shows that players do indeed want more male heroes like Gorou and Itto and not just a flood of waifus.
Overall, there are 28 female and 13 male playable characters in the game. Therefore, it can be understood why some fans are so focused on the men. The first reason would be the imbalance and the lack of male characters.
The second reason is probably simply the currently unique appearance of the two newcomers. So far, there are no characters that are built like Itto or are a mix of dog and human like Gorou.
While many fans want to touch Gorou’s fluffy ears, the rest crave Itto’s washboard abs and muscles.

The third reason would be the element of the two. Because the Geo element is represented the least with a total of 4 characters. The others exist in this amount:
- Pyro: 10
- Cryo: 9
- Electro: 7
- Anemo: 6
- Hydro: 5
Furthermore, Gorou is the first Geo hero who wields a bow as a weapon. Many fans are particularly taken with him because of that.
Itto and Gorou could bring a boost for Geo with their abilities and make it significantly stronger. What exactly skills they have is not yet officially known. This will be revealed in the livestream on Friday, and we from MeinMMO will, of course, report on it.
Even Albedo’s rerun is receiving a lot of praise: Since Albedo was last available at Christmas in 2020 and many players were still newcomers then or had not played Genshin Impact at all, they are happy to finally have the opportunity to pull for the strong Geo sub-DPS.

Even waifu fans celebrate the husbando patch
While huge amounts of money and primogems have flowed into the last banners of the strong women Hu Tao, Raiden Shogun, and Ayaka (via genshinlab), many now reportedly have to save. They see the patch as a great opportunity to gather resources for future female characters.
They have no issue with the fact that the husbando craze has broken out and are taking a break from banner pulls until the next heroines are available.
Under the reddit thread with the official livestream announcement, players make the following statements (via reddit):
- iRhyiku says: “Nice, now I feel less bad for spending all my primogems on the 1st constellation for Hu Tao and the Homa staff.”
- lukichi cheers: “Good luck husbando simps! Let’s let the waifu simps rest.”
- Ritsuka-San notes that those who want Ganyu are probably sad, but DarkKnight53 responds with approval from some users: “Shhh, I haven’t saved enough yet.”
