Fortnite has equipped Darth Vader with artificial intelligence so you can talk to him. However, the villain was naughty.
What’s the deal with Darth Vader? On May 16, 2025, Epic Games introduced a collaboration with Google and its artificial intelligence Gemini. This now allows you to speak with Darth Vader in Fortnite.
The villain from Star Wars walks alongside you during a Fortnite match and responds to what you say in voice chat. The AI uses the voice of the late actor James Earl Jones, who voiced Darth Vader in the English version.
Darth Vader uses profanity towards players
What rules did Darth Vader break? Darth Vader responds to you in Fortnite’s voice chat and therefore must adhere to certain rules regarding what he can say and what topics he can discuss, just like the players.
According to known Fortnite leaker Hypex, Vader is not allowed to talk about the following topics (via X):
- V-Bucks
- Sexual language or activities
- The harm or death of children or adolescents
- More than two lines from non-Disney/Star Wars media
- “The words ‘shit’, ‘shitty’, ‘fuck’, ‘bullshit’, ‘cunt’, ‘bitch’, ‘asshole’, ‘pussy’, and ‘dick’.”
However, players of the battle royale shooter managed to make Vader use forbidden profanity just a few hours after the implementation. In a clip from Twitch streamer Loserfruit, he repeats the phrase “fucking” (via X).
Developers intervene to stop naughty Vader
How did the developers react? In various posts on X, Epic Games stated they responded to the Sith Lord’s profanity with a hotfix. In the case of streamer Loserfruit, the developers wrote: “We immediately released a hotfix, and this should not happen again.”
Is there a type of parental control? Yes, if players are under 13 years old and have a restricted account, the player’s parents must give permission before they can talk to Darth Vader. Generally, the option “Voice and text communication with AI features” was added to the settings, allowing communication with Darth Vader to be turned on and off.
