In Fortnite you can now team up with 15 other players and start a huge party with 16 players. We explain how the new feature works and in which modes you can create such large player lobbies. It’s almost like being on a raid.
This is the feature: On Twitter Epic announced that you can now form a group of up to 16 players in Fortnite. Previously, the group size of so-called “Premades” was limited to 4 players. Now you can play with even more friends.
The feature is very simple to use and is well-received by the player base. Finally, you can play with more friends together and are not limited to small lobbies.
How to set up a 16-player group
Here you set up the group: When you log in to Fortnite next time, you will find a new button labeled “Set up group”. There you can choose between different group sizes:
- Llama Squad: Up to 4 players
- Crab Squad: Requires at least 5 players
- Bear Squad: Requires at least 9 players
- Dragon Squad: Requires at least 13 players
Depending on your group size, you select a squad and can play together.
Here it doesn’t work: Some modes, such as Duos or Squads, do not work with the large groups. So it doesn’t work in the standard modes, but only in the larger modes.
In the standard modes, you can only invite your friends to your group as usual, depending on how many are allowed there.
Here are the large groups good for: Especially in the large game modes, such as the current Avengers: Endgame mode, such large groups are worthwhile. There you can play together with a huge group of friends and take out your opponents.
In these modes, large groups are possible. Other LTMs with large player groups could also allow the feature:
- Creative mode
- 50 vs 50
- Disco Domination
- Food Fight
- Endgame
- 20-player teams
- Team Rumble
Fans say: Players are excited about the new group sizes, as finally, you are not limited to 4-player groups.
For instance, the streamer Scenario writes: “Perfect timing for the upcoming event!”
Other players have already set challenges for themselves. For example, the user “NebulaiOS” on Reddit shows a picture of a complete lobby full of banana skins. Thousands of players celebrate the image.

What do you think of the large groups? Do you like the new feature?
