In Fortnite: Battle Royale, the big Halloween event has finally arrived. The cube on the island has exploded, and zombies are emerging from its fragments. They need to be killed just like your fellow players.
Are there now zombies in Fortnite: Battle Royale? Indeed. The creepy undead are now roaming the Battle Royale mode, after the cube matter has burst on the floating island and fragments have spread all over the map.
From these chunks, the so-called “Monsters” spawn, reminiscent of the husks from the regular Fortnite PvE mode Save the World. The theory that everything in Battle Royale is just a sequel to the main story now seems extremely likely.
New game mode for Halloween: The zombies will only bother you in the new game mode “Fortnitemares: Nightmares.” The mode for the Halloween event is likely to continue until November 26 and offers zombies in addition to the usual Battle Royale fun. So, you kill the undead just like your fellow players.
This is how the zombie game mode works in Fortnite
PvE meets PvP: As mentioned, you are now no longer alone with your fellow players on the map. From the fragments of the cube, the monsters emerge, appearing in various sizes.
- Large fragments spawn big creatures. You can find them in the cursed areas.
- Small fragments spawn smaller enemies. They can appear anywhere on the map.
What do you gain by killing the zombies? The undead are not only annoying, they also leave behind great loot and create more action. This leads to wild chaotic fights when players confront a horde of monsters and are then caught in the crossfire by other players.
The whole scene strongly resembles the zombies from the Battle Royale mode Blackout from Black Ops 4. There, the zombies even gifted our author Jürgen his first kill.
New weapons against monsters: Only in the Nightmares mode, there’s the new weapon “Monster Hunter.” This is essentially the already known crossbow that has not been in the game until now. It has been reworked and now deals four times the damage against the monsters.
New outfit for monster hunting: In the shop, there is the new outfit “Deadfire”. This is the male counterpart to the Season 6 title character Calamity and represents a male cowboy. Together with the corresponding back bling and the axe, this set is reactive. The more kills you make with it and the longer you survive, the more its appearance changes to that of an undead ghost cowboy.
Regular new challenges: To keep the new mode exciting until the end, Epic is planning to regularly introduce new challenges. This way, you can unlock even more cosmetic items. The first challenges are:
- Destroy cube monsters
- Deal damage to cube monsters with assault rifles or pistols
- Visit cursed areas in various matches
- Dance at different water fountains
As a reward, there is an emoji for the first tasks and at the end of all challenges, a cool glider that looks like a ghost train.
