What are excavation sites? In Fortnite: Battle Royale, major events are taking place in Season 8 that lead to the end of the season. This time, these are mysterious excavation sites that are gradually appearing on the map.
Your task: You are to dig through the earth with your pickaxe, which has tens of thousands of hit points. Therefore, the progress of all players is constantly counted. This way, the community gradually digs through the different excavation sites and uncovers mysterious things.

Currently, the usual excavators for excavation sites are at Loot Lake. And they are distributed all over Loot Lake.
It is therefore very likely that you will have to dig a lot and chop millions of hit points out of the earth until the secret is revealed.
Additionally, helicopters have also appeared at the lake. The choppers had previously shown up at various locations and are now at the excavation site. Another hint that something big is about to happen.
The season end with a new skin?
What could be under Loot Lake? There is currently much speculation about what might come out from under Loot Lake. It is suspected, among other things, that the infamous purple cube is making a return.
Because the cube that previously rolled around in Season 5 and later rose as a flying island from the lake burst at the end of Season 6 over the lake and distributed fragments across the map.
However, it could be that a particularly large piece of the cube is still lying under the lake and will be uncovered.
This should ultimately signal the end of Season 8, and possibly the prisoner and the ice king from Season 7 will be back in the game.
After all, the cube has already reshaped the Fortnite map multiple times. And maybe finally the world boss battle that fans have long been waiting for will take place.
That’s why the new skin could play a role: It could also be that the new skin “Ruin” is involved there. If Fortnite follows the tradition of Season 7, then the bonus skin is again part of the story, and Ruin is a kind of lava knight who may rise from a vent under the lake.
Ruin will, however, not be unlocked until week 8 at the earliest, as you need 55 completed challenges for him. It’s quite possible that the uncovering of the excavation site will also start soon, thereby leading to the season finale with Ruin.
This would also fully correspond to the tradition of Fortnite to announce season endings with iconic bonus skins.
