In the new instantiated content Bozjan Southern Front in Final Fantasy XIV , brave heroes fight against giant robots, hordes of monsters, imperial soldiers. And a Chocobo.
What happened? Since October 13, many FFXIV players have been exploring the new content Bozjan Southern Front. The new zone is a large battlefield where the Bozjan resistance fighters engage in battle against the might of the IVth Imperial Legion to free their homeland from enslavement.
Blood is flowing, death lurks around every corner, it is true war. But the one boss that truly obliterates the players in the instance is a sweet bird. His name is Red Comet and with his meteors, he chases the disturbed and frightened players into the next century.
This looks like in practice:
In the video, you can see players desperately trying to survive the boss fight for 12 minutes. However, they cannot hide from the countless explosions and AOE areas of the murderous bird.
“EVERYONE died. It was terrible”
On reddit and social media, players are sharing horror stories about encounters with the red Chocobo on the battlefield of Bozja. The massive amount of explosions and AOEs has left some with lasting damage.
Twitter user @VirunSeptimus wrote:
You can’t use words to describe the bloodbath that happened when we attacked this bird. EVERYONE died. It was horrible. Bodies were scattered everywhere. Achievements for resurrection were earned. I don’t know exactly what happened, but it was BAD.
The murderous bird spreads death and destruction throughout the community. Not only European and US players are being trampled by it.
Japanese players are having problems too:
It was so bad for the Japanese that the hashtag “Red Chocobo” even trended for a while in the top trends of Japanese Twitter:
Other players are trying to deal with their traumatic Choco-Meteo experiences with memes and humor. They referred to the boss fight as the new Ultimate mode, the hardest mode in FFXIV.
On reddit, user HouseofDegenerates posted, for example:
The FFXIV team seems to be well aware of the horror effect of the red Chocobos. The official English Twitter account of FFXIV tweeted today “Hi” along with the icon of a red bird.
The tweet received over 200 replies, many of which were disturbed and horrified.
Can you defend against it? Fortunately, players have now found a counter against the nasty bird. With the spell Reflect, you can negate the damage from the meteors.
The special ability is randomly obtained from the unexamined Frontline Shards of Devotion left behind by the enemies in the Bozjan instance or awarded as quest rewards. Alternatively, you can buy them at the market board.
Red Chocobos have been spreading fear and terror since FF Tactics
What kind of bird is this? For many long-time fans of the Final Fantasy series, the name “Red Chocobo” sends a shiver down their spine. These seemingly cute birds have been terrorizing anyone who dares to encounter them in a random battle since FF Tactics.
Their special ability is called “Choco Meteo” (also optionally Choco-Comet or Choco-Meteor). Depending on the game, it deals very high damage, and fans are now fully experiencing the power of Choco Meteo in Final Fantasy XIV.
Red Chocobos are affectionately referred to by some players as “Murder Chicken.”
There were also red Chocobos here: This is not the first time players have been annihilated by red Chocobos in FFXIV. To unlock the Ridoranna raid during the Stormblood expansion, players had to get past several such birds.
They also threw meteors around, leading to a real massacre:
And back then, players also reacted with memes and humor. The Red Comet of the Bozjan Front was celebrated as “The Vengeance of the Red Chocobos.”
Another monster in Final Fantasy XIV drove players insane with math problems.
