The Endwalker addon is just around the corner in Final Fantasy XIV. In addition to numerous content updates, there is also a small but neat feature that many players will appreciate. The gender lock will be lifted for several clothing items.
Here’s what it’s about: On December 3rd at 10:00 AM, the FFXIV servers will go online, and the early access to the new Endwalker addon will begin. This brings a massive amount of content that players can now read about in the detailed patch notes.
A small change, however, has particularly pleased some players. The notes announce that a whole series of equipment items will lose their gender lock with Endwalker.
A total of 31 items can be worn by both genders starting December 3rd. This includes pretty dresses like the maid outfit for men, as well as stylish blazers like the butler outfit for ladies.
The lifting of the gender lock on clothing is an old topic in FFXIV. Time and again, there have been requests in the official forums and on social media addressed to the MMORPG’s development team to remove the lock. With the Endwalker addon, this player wish is fulfilled.
Accordingly, there were also several posts celebrating Endwalker and saying goodbye to Shadowbringers, expressing joy over the abolition of the gender lock.
What has already changed: The lifting of the gender lock on clothing is a process that was already announced in 2019 by director Yoshida in an interview with Kotaku and began in February 2020.
At that time, restrictions on wedding clothing and the playboy bunny outfit were lifted. This allowed men to wear dresses and bunny ears as well.
When the large 24-man raid for Nier Automata was introduced, there were also no restrictions on the clothing of android 2B. It can be worn freely by all.

What other removals are there in Endwalker? With Endwalker, the old dream of a large part of the FFXIV community is also fulfilled: The previously all-female Viera will also be available in male form starting December 3rd.
This means that players can now create male Viera as playable characters. The benchmark for the Endwalker addon already served as a test for this. In the character creator, one could already try out the bunny boys and create their desired character.
