Excessive goal celebrations in Ultimate Team can be quite annoying for some players – especially when you find yourself on the wrong end of the goal. In FIFA 22, the developers want to bring an unusual solution for this.
What is the problem? Celebrations in FIFA are a bit of a hassle – at least in online play. Every single goal you score can be celebrated with a small animation.
FIFA features entire arsenals of different celebrations. Some are inspired by real football players, but not exclusively. What they all have in common is that they provide a short animation celebrating the goal after each score.
This is of course fun when you score the goal yourself. It’s less amusing when you concede a goal. Or, worse: When you’re having a really bad game, concede 10 goals, and have to endure the opponent laughing in your face in close-up each time.
This can not only cause quite a bit of frustration but also prolong the game. Since you can only skip the celebration if the opponent decides to do so, you can sometimes be helplessly subjected to the celebration.
In the past, this has led to a lot of discussions. In FIFA 19, for example, the community urged each other to please just skip the celebrations. In FIFA 21, some particularly notorious celebrations were removed, and some animations were shortened.
However, even in FIFA 21, there were still ongoing discussions about celebrations after goals. In FIFA 22, the developers are now pursuing a new approach.
Sad players or celebrating opponents – your choice!
What is planned for FIFA 22? On August 10, 2021, new information about the Ultimate Team mode in FIFA 22 was announced. In addition to changes to Weekend League and Division Rivals, the so-called “Celebration Camera Settings” were also announced.
“Conceding a goal is always painful, especially in a hard-fought match. While the celebration is an important part of real football, we know it can be a frustrating experience for some players to watch it,” the developers write (via Pitch Notes).
With the new camera setting, while celebrations cannot be disabled, at least you can look away. Effectively, a new camera focus is introduced that does not show the opponent celebrating but instead shows how your team reacts to the goal.
As the players are said to behave more realistically off the ball according to gameplay changes in FIFA 22, there are likely to be screams of anger and frustration on the agenda. Whether this is really less humiliating than the opponent’s celebration is probably a matter of taste.
Whether you should see the opponent or your sad players is up to you to decide. By default, the setting is set to “Opponent Celebration,” but you can change that as you wish. This setting affects not only Ultimate Team but also other modes in FIFA 22.
What do you think of the setting? Does it help you, or would you rather have a different solution? Let us know in the comments! You can find all further information on the FIFA 22 release here.
