In FIFA 22, there are player cards that are influenced by real-life matches. This can lead to better stats and great price increases. Or, conversely, a significant crash – as in the case of an expensive PSG card.
This card is about: In Ultimate Team, there are so-called “Road-to-the-Final” cards, whose stats can improve if the real team of the card progresses in the Champions League.
A card like this was also given to Paris center-back Presnel Kimpembe. He is already feared as a completely normal card in FUT, because he plays significantly better than his stats suggest. Accordingly, the special card was quite valuable, which also had a potential for upgrades if Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) progressed in the Champions League.
And it looked really good. The star-studded squad around Neymar and Messi won the first leg against Real Madrid 1-0 and also led 1-0 in the second leg.
The price of Kimpembe shot up: On PlayStation, the defender cost over 1.4 million coins at one point.
But then came Karim Benzema.
Benzema destroys PSG hopes and Kimpembe’s price
This is how the match went: Mbappé scored the opening goal in the 39th minute for PSG, making it look like Paris would progress. During halftime, some FIFA fans were already excited that their Kimpembe would thus become stronger.
However, between the 61st and 78th minute, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema turned the tide completely and scored three goals against PSG. As a result, PSG was eliminated early from the Champions League once again – despite stars like Messi, Neymar, and Mbappé.
This is how it affected FIFA: On the portal futbin, you can clearly see where the game turned upside down in Kimpembe’s price development: The card of the center-back makes a sudden break and promptly plummeted from 1.4 million to about 700,000 coins. Still a lot – but significantly less than before.

Those who bought Kimpembe before or even during the first half were left in a tough spot. Hundreds of thousands of coins – simply gone.
This was also commented on by the FIFA reddit community.
This is what the community says: In a post on reddit that received over 1,300 upvotes, players discuss the harsh crash. Such severe price swings are not necessarily common even on the strange transfer market in FIFA 22.
- “I packed him and played a bit with him, but I didn’t like him. I thought I would hold onto him just to see if he rises in price due to the hype; my plan was to sell him just before kickoff,” user “LondonNoodles” states: “Then I watched the first 20 minutes with Mbappe’s goal and he rose to 1.5 million, and I thought: ‘Okay, even in the unlikely event they lose, he will still be over 1 million, so it’s worth the risk.’ I watched a movie with my girlfriend, then I checked futbin on my phone and saw him at 700k…” (via reddit).
- “I pulled him from packs and sold him for 1.25 million. I watched the game, and after Real Madrid’s equalizer, I was glad I sold him,” it went better for “demwatermelons” (via reddit).
- “F… Never count on PSG to win anything. FIFA players can only see green links that do not exist in real matches. Actually, all players at PSG should have red links, to be precise.” comments user “MasterofDisaster_BG” (via reddit) about the possibly not so fitting chemistry of the real PSG team.
By the way, the situation was different for players who had Gareth Bale as a RTTF card. Before the match, he was worth about 240,000 coins and now costs 390,000.
The FUT-Birthday event is currently also running in FIFA 22. Tokens are available to collect again. All FUT-Birthday tokens and their locations are shown here.
