This message hits players hard: Boomer, the wonder dog, will not be part of Far Cry: New Dawn. Ubisoft has killed him. But why?
In Far Cry 5, a four-legged friend touched the hearts of many players. No, this is not about Cheeseburger, the hefty bear. This is about the best of the good boys, the bravest of the brave guys, and the most loyal of the loyal companions: Boomer.
In the latest installment of the Far Cry series, we have to do without the superdog. He is dead. And Ubisoft has clear reasons for this.
Boomer was a good boy
Even before the launch of Far Cry 5, some companions were introduced. They appear in human form as crazy pilots, but also as animals, like Boomer.
What made Boomer special? Many immediately took the sweet, loyal four-legged friend into their hearts. In Far Cry 5, he attacks enemies, knocks them to the ground, and can also fetch weapons. But that’s not all.
In an interview about Far Cry 5, it was said: “He can take hits, fall to the ground, or disappear for a short time…” then came the most important words: “But he will always return.” Boomer is a wonder dog.
For animal lovers, it’s great news that they can’t lose their four-legged friend, because, for example, a crazed cult member is wildly shooting around with his minigun.
No return for Boomer in Far Cry: New Dawn
During the Video Game Awards 2018, the new Far Cry: New Dawn was announced, the sequel to Far Cry 5.
In New Dawn, you play in a post-apocalyptic world that starts after the end of part 5. After a huge bomb went off, there was initially cold and rain. Once that all passed, a colorful world full of action emerged. But there is no place for Boomer.
Why can’t Boomer be there? Ubisoft confirms what many feared. Boomer is dead. As a result of this news, many concerned players asked how this could happen. What killed Boomer?
The Creative Director of Far Cry: New Dawn, Jean-Sébastien Decant, explained the background to Boomer’s death.
It is 17 years after Far Cry 5. We considered for a while maybe having a descendant of Boomer as a new pet, but we decided on something new. But no, 17 years… if he was a baby or puppy in 2018, 17 years later he would be old. It has been a rough world for 17 years.
The team did not want to reveal a more precise cause of death. That might be for the best. Because many fans can now imagine that Boomer broke into a dog food silo and got to run around on green meadows for the rest of his life, chased balls, chewed on sticks, bit remaining cult members to death, let the sun shine on his fur while sleeping, and could eat whenever he wanted.
Are there new companions in Far Cry: New Dawn?
Although we have to do without Boomer, New Dawn will provide a new selection of animal companions. There’s even a dog included.
What is the new dog like? The new four-legged friend is called Timber and is an Akita.
What has changed for animal companions? Your animal companions can now jump into vehicles with you as you move across the map.
This was not possible in Far Cry 5, which was often criticized. Because when you were driving in the car, Boomer always had to run behind. In New Dawn, there are even motorcycles with sidecars where Timber could take a seat.
What other companions are there? Instead of the bear Cheeseburger, there is a wild boar. His name is Horatio. According to Ubisoft, he is cute but also disgusting. He acts more like a tank and can take on entire groups of enemies.
