At the Xbox Showcase on June 9, 2024, a new trailer for Fallout 76 was shown. It focuses on the upcoming update “Skyline Valley”. However, at the end, the developers teased an incredibly exciting new feature that is set to arrive in Appalachia in early 2025.
What was that teaser about? At the end of the new trailer (which you can find below), a group of Appalachia heroes is seen, led by a ghoul. A moment later, certainty hits: Starting in early 2025, you can roam the game world of the online adventure as a mutated undead.
The timing of this announcement is likely not a coincidence. After all, Fallout 76 experienced a third renaissance with player records due to the launch of the Fallout series on Amazon Prime a few weeks ago.
Many viewers of the eight episodes will likely agree that Cooper Howard, also known as “The Ghoul” (played by the fantastic Walton Goggins), is by far the most interesting and coolest character in the series adaptation. So why not make ghouls playable in Fallout 76? Exactly, there’s no compelling reason against it.

The Forbidden Vault 63
And what about Skyline Valley? The newly announced update will be released on June 12, 2024, for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. You can expect the first extensive expansion of the Appalachia game world, taking you to the eponymous area of Skyline Valley.
You will wander through the forests of the former Shenandoah National Park, encounter the forbidden Vault 63, where Overseer Hugo Stolz is in control, and uncover the secrets hidden there. Additionally, you will face the public event “Dangerous Pastime,” where you hunt storms and roast oversized robo-heads.
With the release of Skyline Valley, Season 17 will kick off. The official announcement states: “You will learn archery, roast marshmallows, dissect a frog, go for a swim or canoeing, and try not to get lost in the woods. So join the scout pioneers in this season to receive cool camping rewards!”
