In Fallout 76, an old event returns: the “Treasure Hunter Hunt”, where you can stock up on plenty of legendary loot, and it’s very easy. The event started on October 15. Additionally, the developers are fixing numerous bugs to prepare for the upcoming major update “Steel Dawn”.
What kind of event is this? From now on, Treasure Hunter Scavengers will appear in all regions of Appalachia, potentially carrying special loot and legendary items.
For the first time, the Treasure Hunters appeared in Ash Heap in spring 2020. After an apparently successful campaign, they disappeared from Appalachia.
Bethesda has made a series of changes and improvements for the new Treasure Hunter event based on community feedback.
The event starts on Thursday, October 15, 2020, at 6:00 PM CEST and ends on Monday, October 19, 2020, at 6:00 PM CEST.
Legendary loot easily earned
Why the event is worth it: Some loot that is dropped is unique and can only be obtained during the event. This includes legendary weapons and armor, the best gear in the game, if you are lucky with the attributes.
Due to the dynamic levels of the enemies, characters of all levels have the chance for legendary and unique items. Dynamic levels are one of the changes in the major “One Wasteland” update. Thus, the event is suitable for both veterans and players who have taken a longer break and have been waiting for the right moment to explore the world of Fallout 76.
The Treasure Hunter Scavengers will also drop Scavenger Buckets with a higher chance than in spring.
How do the buckets work? You can either loot buckets from the Scavengers or craft them yourself. To craft them, you need empty buckets from vendors as well as some materials. Those who need components to craft Scavenger Buckets will receive them at significantly reduced prices from vendors during the event.
The buckets contain both existing plans and exclusive plans that are only available during the event. The higher the quality of the bucket, the higher the chance for rare loot such as outfits or blueprints.
Some players have already compiled an unofficial list of possible loot (via Google Docs).
Note that according to information from some players, the new buckets from autumn cannot be sold. If you find any for sale in player shops, they are probably old buckets with worse loot.
Farming tips
- Treasure Hunters can appear anywhere – you don’t have to go looking for them specifically
- Preferably complete your daily quests and keep an eye out for the Scavengers to be more efficient
- Join public groups or meet up with friends to cover larger areas and farm together
- Don’t kill a Scavenger immediately when you see it, but see if others want to attack it too. This way, you ensure that everyone gets something from the event
- Make sure you have enough ammunition so you don’t have to keep going back to camp. Some of the new legendary perks can help you craft or save ammunition
Important bug fixes for the upcoming update
What the update brings: With update 23 on Tuesday, a total of 62 bugs and exploits were fixed. Among them is a particularly annoying one that allowed players to bypass a part of “Daily Operations: Connection Device” to get reinforcements faster.
Additional bug fixes make it easier for you to complete quests or fix problems that have led you to completely wrong places. Furthermore, Fallout 76 should now run more stable on all platforms.

What’s next? The bug fixes are a good preparation for the upcoming “Steel Dawn” update that is set to arrive in winter. This will finally bring the Steel Brotherhood to Appalachia. Players already have suggestions for improvements.
The update contains new armor and weapons, new quests, and a new season with plenty of rewards to be earned. Additionally, further features such as C.A.M.P. Shelters are planned. This is essentially your own vault, right under your camp. The shelters have already been tested on the PTR and have been largely well received by players.
