The new PvP system introduced with the update “Into the Abyss” in the space MMO EVE Online has found an undisputed champion.
Want to have a round of PvP in the Abyssal Deadspace of EVE Online – the new mode introduced with “Into the Abyss“? Then you should pray not to fly into the path of the “Lord of the Abyss”.
The new PvP mode is controversial
How does the Abyssal Deadspace work? The new PvP mode consists of several parts and differs significantly from the space battles that otherwise take place in the game.
- First, you need to navigate through the dangerous Abyssal Deadspace area
- If you succeed, you reach an Abyssal Arena
- This is an instance
- There you will find containers with valuable loot
- Other players also want this loot, which leads to PvP battles
This is why the mode is controversial: EVE Online is a sandbox. Most players want everything in the game to take place in the open world, including the PvP fights. However, the new mode plays in an instance, which goes against the idea of an open sandbox. Therefore, there has already been some criticism of the Abyssal Deadspace.
Fame and its downsides
One player is the champion: The EVE player BoRn2ReIgN sees things a bit differently than the majority of the community. Because the new PvP mode allows for fair duels in his opinion. While a duel in the open world of the MMO often ends with the loser calling for friends for reinforcement, there is no reinforcement in the Abyssal Deadspace. However, this requires a different approach.
BoRn2ReIgN had to train for a long time to become good enough and have a “perfect” setup to be the best player in the Abyssal Deadspace. Furthermore, he focuses entirely on mods that help him in this mode. So his ship can quickly cost over 30 billion ISK – more than some supercarriers.
In the meantime, he is the undisputed champion in PvP. Even the developers warn against this “monster”. Because he wins fight after fight. In 44 encounters, he has managed to achieve 43 kills. This has earned him the nickname “Lord of the Abyss”. So if you encounter him in PvP, it almost automatically means your death.
This is why being the best is not always good: In EVE Online, the fame of BoRn2ReIgN has also attracted many envious players. Meanwhile, BoRn2ReIgN is also a target for attacks from other players outside the Abyssal Deadspace. Players often lie in wait for him when he just comes out weakened from the PvP arena.
Now BoRn2ReIgN even travels through the high-security areas of space. However, his opponents use ships that cause a lot of damage before the security forces can come to his aid. Fame always has its downsides – even in EVE Online.
