With a new update, cosmetic monster sets have been added to The Elder Scrolls Online (PC, PS4, Xbox One). This gives you more options to customize your appearance in ESO. But there is a catch.
What are appearance styles in ESO? With appearance styles, players in ESO can change the look of their character regardless of the actual gear they are wearing. They are purely cosmetic. However, until now, fans could not use the appearance styles of monster sets, consisting of shoulder pieces and masks.
Monster Diversity
Previously unused potential: The monster sets are very popular in the community. Many players wear them as part of their armor sets to benefit from the numerous bonuses they provide. However, some players simply find certain monster sets aesthetically pleasing and would like to wear them independently of their gear.
Zenimax has now responded to this:
- There is now a chance to find appearance style pages for the masks by defeating dungeon bosses while completing veteran dungeons.
- Players receive the appearance style pages for shoulders through Unyielding chests.
There is just one problem: Zenimax releases the appearance styles for the monster sets gradually. Every month, the available appearance styles change. Players therefore have one month to find the style of their favorite monster set.
A fan has calculated how long one might have to wait for their favorite style in the worst case. If Zenimax continues to release one monster set as an appearance style each month, the entire process will take 2 years and 8 months for 32 dungeons. Players may have to wait for years for their monster set.
“Why isn’t it a guaranteed drop?”
Players’ opinions: The idea is well received among players. They also appreciate that the appearance style pages are tradeable. Players can run the dungeon multiple times and sell the pages afterward if they do not need them.
However, some players complain that the offer is time-limited. They collect the appearance styles and want to have them all.
Other players believe that the appearance style should be a guaranteed drop so they do not have to complete the dungeons multiple times.
Double chance: At least Zenimax increases the drop chance under certain conditions:
- If players complete a veteran dungeon on the hardest setting, they receive a special achievement for each veteran dungeon.
- This achievement doubles the chance of finding a style page in that dungeon.
How to get your first appearance style in ESO, Illambris
Illambris mask: You can obtain the first appearance style by defeating the bosses of the dungeon Heart’s Crypt I in veteran mode. The veteran dungeon achievement “A Crypt for Two” doubles the chance of finding a page.
Illambris shoulders: You need to complete a pledge at the Unyielding. These are daily runs through specific dungeons. Pledges reward you with a Unyielding Key. With this key, you can open a Unyielding chest from Glirion the Redbeard. In there, you may find an appearance style page for the shoulders with a bit of luck.
Hot weapons. In line with the appearance styles for monster sets, Zenimax also releases appearance styles for weapons in the look of the Heart’s Crypt. However, you can only obtain these styles through the Crown Store.
Price: The weapon pack costs 2,500 crowns.
