In the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online (PC, Xbox One, PS4), it is possible to buy a crab as a pet today, on March 23rd, inspired by the recently released shooter Doom Eternal.
What kind of crab is this? The Mud Crab of Eternal Doom is found in the Deadlands, where it has learned to survive despite adverse conditions.
The crab emerges from the ground with a glowing effect. This effect, thanks to the hellish symbols, resembles the shooter Doom Eternal. Additionally, the creature features a red pattern on its shell that resembles lava.
A Crab from Doom Eternal in ESO
What does the crab do? It is a peaceful companion. It does not intervene in combat but runs loyally alongside you.
The crab also mimics the weapon sounds from Doom Eternal. It “reloads” its pincers, and then gunshots are heard.
How can you get this crab? You can currently buy it for 500 crowns in the Crown Store. However, you need to hurry, because the Mud Crab of Eternal Doom is only available for purchase today, March 23rd, in The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO).
So it is a limited pet.
Update March 23rd, 8:12 PM: The crab is no longer available in the ESO Crown Store. The offer has changed.
What do players think about the Mud Crab? The majority of players find the pet interesting and somewhat cute. Some want to have it as a companion.
Others, however, would prefer a pet that actually has some abilities. A riding function would be something players wish for, or a combat function.
- Red Beard explains on Twitter: “Wouldn’t it be fantastic if it were the first combat pet?”
- jSparkles says: “I love her and I would die for her. We will rule hell together as girl and demonic fiddler!”
- GandTheImpaler writes: “Let me ride her!”
Andreas says: The Mud Crab of Eternal Doom is pretty cool. Anyone who likes both Doom and the now significantly slimmer MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online will be tempted to get this little creature. Especially ESO subscribers often have enough crowns left over to snag such a pet on the side.
However, I understand the calls for more functional pets. Just imagine if the crab could intervene in combat or if we could actually ride it! But even so, it is a nice companion.
- There are pets that also have certain attributes, like the Thornback War Boar, which increases inventory size.
- If you are not interested in pets, ESO has much more to offer. Including a cool housing system.
