In the space MMO Elite Dangerous, a community event is currently taking place where players are tasked with saving the generation ship. What exactly happens to this ship and its inhabitants lies in the hands of the players.
What is the generation ship? On November 5, the game’s developers released a statement from the fictional Rockforth Corporation, which apologized for pathogens and the destruction of many crops. This statement was followed by a notice that a distress signal was to be investigated.
This is exactly what the Twitch streamer “malic_vr” did and came across the generation ship Golconda. This ship, unlike the 15 other ships of this kind in Elite Dangerous, is inhabited.
As of today, November 18, the event is in its second phase, and players are deciding how the civilization aboard the ship should proceed.
Resource deliveries for the Empire or Federation
What can players do? Until November 26, players can choose to support either the Empire or the Federation, two NPC factions, with supplies. The faction that can showcase more supplies will win.
The plans for the future of the Golconda differ slightly:
- The Empire wants to help the civilization with their original plan and establish a colony on a planet.
- The Federation, on the other hand, appreciates the special status of the civilization and wants to assist them with a space station.
After the event ends, there will also be special rewards: All players will receive more rank points from December 5 to December 16, as well as a discount on the ships of the respective faction.
What happens next? As for the future of the Golconda, much likely depends on the event. However, it is quite possible that players will continue to interact with the civilization in the future. Perhaps a new story will develop from this that unfolds gradually.
