Loot is one of the most important features in Diablo 4. At the same time, loot is also so complex that it is extremely difficult for the average player to spot upgrades. Fans have now compiled all kinds of affixes and created an extensive list.
What are these affixes?
- Every item in Diablo 4 has a fixed attack or armor value as well as a fixed property depending on the type. Armors and jewelry can have different fixed properties here.
- Additionally, each item has “affixes,” meaning extra values like critical hit value. Holy and Inherited items have more properties than “normal ones.”
- If you count all possible affixes that can appear on items, the list comes to over 200 different properties (via Reddit).
This is the problem with affixes: The sheer breadth of possible affixes has two major disadvantages:
- If you don’t delve deeply into loot, it can be impossible to recognize upgrades
- Finding upgrades at all is unlikely because most affixes are not suitable for your build
To reliably improve a character, you need to rely on damage buckets that can multiply your damage. However, according to players with the many affixes, this is only difficult to achieve.
Since many of these properties are in the same “bucket,” they only add up if you can even use them with your build. Properties related to critical hits or barriers are only meaningful for some classes.
No desire to farm? Good items are also available directly from merchants:
“Who asked for this?”
Players on Reddit are currently dissecting the various affixes and even creating “cheat sheets” with all possible properties at a glance (via Reddit). However, the consensus is: so many options are absolutely unnecessary.
In the predecessor Diablo 3, such items would simply have been scrapped directly. In Diablo 4, however, you need the items to craft legendaries. Yellow, or “rare” items, are more important in the game than in previous Diablo installments.
However, since you constantly find them while farming, it takes a lot of time to find the items that actually improve you given the vast amount of properties.

Users on Reddit lament: they simply have no time to read each item carefully. Websites like D4Craft.com are necessary to recognize upgrades without much prior knowledge, but they take even more time. Those who work and are married do not want to invest this time.
Some players have even quit because of this. Path of Exile has a similarly opaque system, and that is exactly why they would have preferred to play Diablo. Such features are “artificial complexity.”
The good news is that this problem mainly affects “min-maxers,” meaning the players who fight for every percentage of improvement. For the majority, farming the best items in Season 1 has become significantly easier:
