In Diablo 2: Resurrected, it happens that created characters suddenly disappear. Blizzard announces that they are working on a fix and provides some tips on how you could avoid the bug until then.
Update, October 10, 16:06: There was a server down today, during which the online characters disappeared. However, this is not the same error. You can find more about it in our article about the server down.
This is the issue: The bumpy launch of Diablo 2: Resurrected was probably not surprising for most players. However, what probably startled some was the bug that reset their progress in the game or even made the player characters completely disappear and still does.
The bug refers to offline characters and has been popping up repeatedly since the launch of the game on September 23 (MeinMMO was on the ticker). Blizzard has now identified the issue and is working urgently on a fix. Community Manager Hooley announced this in the official forums.
Here’s how you can work around the problem: At the same time, Blizzard provided a tip on how to prevent your characters from disappearing until the fix. The issue apparently lies in the naming of online and offline characters.
If they have the same names, the offline character may disappear. To prevent this, you just need to use different names.
However, Blizzard has not communicated what will happen to the disappeared characters after the fix. It is therefore still unclear whether you will get them back or not.
Searching for bugs and fixing issues
Blizzard also says: In the post about update 9.24, which went online last night, Community Manager Hooley stated that the team is currently targeting several issues and bugs and is working on fixing them. These include, among others, the offline character bug:
- The problem that some characters were not selectable (locked out) is now being gradually fixed. If you couldn’t use your character last night, check back today.
- For players who could not create or join gaming lobbies, the causes of the problem are currently being investigated.
- The team is also monitoring the worldwide uptime of players to counteract crash problems and stabilize Diablo 2: Resurrected.
- Some players are also unable to start the game. This issue is also being worked on.
So, you can expect a number of fixes in the near future that will improve the gaming experience and address common issues.
