In Destiny 2, the community will launch Season 8 – the season of the Undying. This is expected to unfold similarly to the curse in the Dreaming City.

This is Season 8: Currently, Season 7 is ongoing, which ends with the launch of Shadowkeep in early October and makes way for the next season: The season of the Undying.
It is known that Season 8 will revolve around the Vex. There will be a Vex invasion, where you will face an Undying Spirit. New exotic weapons, new ornaments, a new activity, and the possibility to become even stronger.
Confusion about the start of Season 8
When does Season 8 start? Officially, Season 8 will start on October 1, 2019, together with Shadowkeep – because this is also when Season 7 ends.
However, the season of the Undying is expected to begin only a few days after the Shadowkeep release, as
- originally, October 5 was indicated as the starting date for Season 8. This date was mentioned in the video description of the Season 8 trailer but has now been changed to October 1.
- and according to new information from Project Lead Scott Taylor and Bungie’s DeeJ, Season 8 will not simply start on October 1.
Here are the new details about Season 8: As the YouTuber xhoundishx has learned from several gamescom interviews, Season 8 will build on the events of Shadowkeep.
Scott Taylor reveals that Season 8 will be a logical progression of the story in Shadowkeep. There will be events in Shadowkeep that will greatly anger the Vex, and then they will react. What happens in Season 8 is therefore directly related to the events in Shadowkeep.
DeeJ adds an exciting piece of information: “The community will start the season of the Undying, similar to how the curse in the Dreaming City was unleashed with the completion of the ‘Last Wish’ raid.”
When the first fireteam conquered the Forsaken raid in September 2018, all players received an in-game message that a curse now lies over the Dreaming City. This triggered a 3-week cycle that could be ended with Shadowkeep.
What does this mean? Presumably, Season 8 will be connected to the new Shadowkeep raid. Because this is expected to open on October 5 – the day that was originally indicated as the start date for Season 8.
Additionally, this would parallel the curse in the Dreaming City, which was also tied to a raid.
Furthermore, the story trailer for Season 8 mentions that the Vex will do everything to protect the Black Garden – where the new raid “Garden of Salvation” takes place. Thus, the Vex will probably only come when the action goes to the Garden starting from October 5.
According to a leak before gamescom, which has since proven to be incorrect, there is supposed to be an enemy named “Typhon” in Shadowkeep that intrudes into the Black Garden to resurrect the Heart. The Guardians must prevent him from doing so – and the Vex probably dislike this as well.
Whether this leak will be confirmed remains to be seen. But something will happen in Shadowkeep that initiates the Vex invasion, and this is most likely related to the Black Garden.
