Xur, the exotic vendor, has recently become interesting again for many guardians since the start of Season 6, after he seemed to fade into obscurity in Destiny 2.
This is not working with Xur as planned: Since Update 2.2.1, Xur was supposed to offer exotic armor pieces with random rolls. However, fans point out that this feature does not seem to be working yet.
So far, the mysterious agent of the Nine has only had familiar perk combinations since the update, such as
- Fusion Rifle Handling, Hand Cannon Handling, Range
- or Fusion Rifle Loader, Hand Cannon Loader, Impact Induction
present. There have not been any new combos on the corresponding armor pieces yet.
This is what Bungie says: In a Reddit thread about Xur’s current visit on April 26, a fan repeatedly pointed this out and received an official response from Bungie.
The community manager Cozmo commented that they have looked into this issue. They apparently found that the change did not really take effect, and it is still not possible for Xur to offer armor with random rolls. However, they are already working on it.
When can a solution be expected? Unfortunately, this is not known. Cozmo did not mention a rough timeframe or a specific date for a fix. Therefore, guardians will have to wait a bit longer if they are hoping for exciting rolls from Xur.
What was the problem with Xur?
This is why Xur increasingly lost significance: In Destiny 2, Xur could never quite regain the cult status he had from the predecessor. Especially after the release of the Forsaken expansion in autumn 2018, the exotic vendor seemed increasingly likely to fade into obscurity – among other reasons:
- Exotic drops have generally become significantly rarer than in Year 1 of Destiny 2
- Exotic drops often only provided Year 1 exotics that players already had – this frustrated many fans
- Xur brought only Year 1 exotics until recently, making him increasingly boring for many guardians
This is how Bungie made Xur more interesting with Season 6: Since the beginning of Season 6, Bungie has given the noodle-faced character some new features that have made Xur exciting for many guardians again:
- Xur’s inventory can now also include Forsaken exotics. He has had some of them several times.
- Xur’s Fate Engrams, from which you can receive a random exotic once per week, now also have a chance to drop exotic items from the Forsaken expansion
- The exotic armor pieces available from Xur now offer random rolls – or at least they should. Because this feature is currently faulty
- Xur offers the Invitations of the Nine – a type of story-driven bounties that reveal more about the mysterious organization “The Nine”
