In Destiny 2, even the PvP pros are struggling to complete the hard Trials. The reason is a shotgun. We’ll tell you what makes the weapon so special, how to get the new best shotgun, and provide tips for the God Roll.
Why don’t the experts want to win? The ultimate goal in the Trials of Osiris is to achieve 7 victories without a loss. This is called “flawless” in the Destiny universe. However, this week (March 20-24), PvP experts like CammyCakes say: “Don’t go flawless.”
The reason behind this is a shotgun. It is available as a reward in the Trials, but not upon reaching the mythical lighthouse after 7 wins, but much earlier for all Guardians after 3 wins.
This is what players do for the new weapon: After a Flawless run, it becomes significantly harder to obtain the weapon dubbed the “new best shotgun.” Therefore, players are flocking to the lower ranks of the Trials, much to the dismay of weaker players.
Players reset their tickets and farm in the first 3 rounds of the Trials for the new weapon. In this article, we take a closer look at the latest champion in the shotgun arena.
All information about the new best PvP shotgun in Destiny 2
This is the weapon in question: The shotgun currently being praised by PvP pros is named “Astral Horizon” (eng. Astral Horizon). It is used in the kinetic slot and belongs to the aggressive representatives of its kind. Besides the strong stats, the unique rolls are particularly convincing.

How to get the Trials shotgun: The shotgun Astral Horizon is part of the loot pool of Trials of Osiris. Each week you receive a reward in the Trials upon achieving your first 3, 5, and 7 victories, as well as for a flawless completion on your trial ticket.
This week, you receive the Trials shotgun after just 3 wins. Once you meet this criterion, you can obtain the weapon from Saint-14 through rank-ups. In exchange for 20 trial tokens, you receive a random reward from all the Trials gear you have earned. The smaller your loot pool, the greater the chance for the coveted shotgun.
The required trial tokens can be obtained through:
- Bounties (weekly, daily, and repeatable)
- As a reward for match completions (for wins and losses)
Be aware that there is currently a loot bug wreaking havoc in the Trials. You can read about what the bug is and how to deal with it here.
Look out for this roll: Currently recommended as a God Roll, which is the best possible combination of attributes:
- Barrel: Full Choke or Rifled Barrel
- Magazine: Tactical Mag
- Perk 1: Sure Shot
- Perk 2: Opening Shot
- Masterwork: Handling or Range
What makes the weapon so special? The fact that the Astral Horizon can come with arguably the best perk for aggressive shotguns (Sure Shot) is unique among kinetic shotguns. This allows the weapon to be drawn or switched very quickly in a duel.
In addition, the combination with “Opening Shot,” which can’t be found on any other similar shotgun, significantly increases the range and precision for deadly shots. The Trials shotgun outperforms the previously strongest PvP shotgun (Mindbender) by an average of 0.5-1 meter.
Is it worth farming this shotgun this weekend? Absolutely! It will be the next king of shotguns in the Crucible.

Also worth noting is the belonging to the kinetic slot. This means that Guardians have access to many powerful primary weapons in the special slot. This includes the currently most dominant weapon in PvP: Hard Light.
Even if you don’t get the recommended God Roll, Astral Horizon offers you many strong perks. Among them are well-known talents like “Slide Shot“, but also quite extraordinary options. This includes “Elemental Capacitor“, which significantly increases handling when using an Arc class.
