Those who participated in Destiny 2 in hardcore PvP “Trials of Osiris” this weekend immediately noticed: The old weapon exotic “No Time to Explain” from Beyond Light surprisingly dominated a large part of the matches. MeinMMO has time for explanations and tells you why this pulse rifle is so strong right now and how you can get it.
This is the new meta in hardcore PvP: After Bungie made some adjustments in Season 17, it is now clear that pulse rifles are the big winners of Season 17.
The strength and dominance of this weapon could be experienced this weekend in the “Trials of Osiris”. The pulse rifle “No Time to Explain” achieved nearly 2 million Guardian kills in a single weekend.
The weapon exotic, which came into the game with Beyond Light via the Season 12 pass, currently benefits from the general buff for pulse rifles in Season 17.
Until then, pulse rifles struggled to compete with weapon types like hand cannons or to take their top spots in the PvP weapon rankings.
What makes the pulse rifle “No Time to Explain” so strong? Essentially, the aggressive pulse rifle, which fires automatically, has never really been bad in Destiny 2.
Guardians could use it to take down their opponents with just 2 shots. The TTK of “No Time to Explain” is only 0.67 seconds. In addition, its range is good, allowing you to fight over long distances and surprise enemies with high damage.
Now, after the changes in Season 17, Guardians have recognized that the strengths of this weapon have become even more effective.
- Pulse rifles received a slight buff in Season 17 .
- They now deal slightly increased damage for more kills with fewer needed critical hits.
- Moreover, the new “effectiveness in the air” means that there are simply fewer hand cannons and more pulse rifles being used.
- In general, most weapons are now more accurate in the air, but it has also become much less likely to score headshots.
- The lack of the mod “Icarus Grip” is less relevant for the exotic “No Time to Explain”.
- And the seasonal artifact additionally offers players a mod for “Pulse Rifle Targeting,” which makes the efficient use of the exotic “No Time to Explain” easier than ever.
The exotic trait offers an additional advantage: The weapon provides its bearer with a small “time dimension turret” through the exo-perk “Rewind”, which automatically fires at enemies and is also beneficial when reloading. Because enemies affected by Stasis or slowed down as well as precision hits return your bullets directly to the magazine. If you also have the catalyst, projectiles from the time portal fire more frequently.
Other pulse rifles also benefit from the buff in Season 17: Due to the changes, the pulse rifle “Short and Snappy” has also established itself in second place in the hardcore mode of the Trials.
The legendary pulse rifle came into the game with the Season of the Risen and offers, with the right perks, equally impressive range, accuracy, and great stability.

The former favorite of Guardians, the Trials pulse rifle “The Messenger” in the master version, is losing significance.
After Bungie nerfed the best perk of this weapon “Desperado”, which increased the rate of fire after a precision kill, it’s simply not the same anymore. You can see this in the current weapon statistics in the Trials Report from June 24 to 28.
This weekend, pulse rifles primarily dominated the Trials, but “The Messenger” is far behind:
- “No Time to Explain”, 340 RPM – 1,741,446 Kills (5%)
- “Short and Snappy”, 540 RPM – 1,415,536 Kills (4%)
- “BxR-55 Monarch”, 450 RPM – 551,094 Kills (2%)
- “The Messenger” (Adept), 340 RPM – 500,958 Kills (1%)
How to get the Exotic “No Time to Explain”? If you also want to prove yourself as a pulse rifle killer in PvP or the “Trials of Osiris”, you should definitely get this exotic from the DLC “Beyond Light”.
- Players must either own the Digital Deluxe Edition or the Standard Edition plus the Season Pass from Season 12 of the “Beyond Light” expansion to obtain the weapon in 2022.
- The weapon can then be unlocked via a campaign quest from the Strange Exo on the ice moon Europa using the catalyst.
