In Destiny 2, there is once again confusion surrounding experience points (XP). This time, Bungie was able to react quickly.
Things don’t seem to be running smoothly with experience points in Destiny 2. When it became known in the fall that there were secret mechanics running in the background that throttled actual XP gains, Bungie was hit hard by a backlash. There were calls for Bungie to finally be more transparent with Destiny 2 and change the system.
Bungie changed the XP gain system, but the problem didn’t get smaller. Guardians quickly found out that they now needed twice as many experience points as before to earn a Glimmer Engram. As a result, the chaos surrounding XP was a topic on social media for weeks.
And recently, a new XP problem emerged.
What happened?
On January 30th, Bungie rolled out the Update 1.14, which tweaked XP a bit. From then on, it should be faster to earn Glimmer Engrams with XP. The required XP was to be reduced from 160,000 to 120,000.
But something seemed to have gone wrong. A Reddit post gained significant attention: According to the API, it now costs 240,000 XP to obtain a Glimmer Engram. It seems that the number of required XP was not decreased, but rather increased.
What does Bungie say about this?
One day later, Bungie’s official Twitter account addressed the issue: There was indeed a server problem affecting ingame XP gains. This has been fixed directly. From now on, you will properly receive a Glimmer Engram per 120,000 XP.
Furthermore, today, on February 1st, a hotfix was rolled out to adjust the Bungie.net API. From now on, all XP gains should be properly reflected in the API.
In summary: If you thought after the last update, “Something is wrong with XP!”, you were absolutely right. But now the XP issue should be resolved.
The community manager dmg04 issued an apology regarding this matter. He writes that he can completely understand the frustration. Problems like this should not happen frequently if you want to regain the trust of the players and improve the atmosphere.
