In Destiny 2, the boundaries of Power Level are being pushed in Shadowkeep. Technically, unlimited Power is supposed to be possible, as Bungie recently revealed on the sidelines of gamescom.
Where did this info come from? At gamescom 2019, the Creative Lead of Shadowkeep, Ben Wommack, revealed in a conversation with IGN how the Power Level in the fall expansion Shadowkeep is limited.
Wommack explains: “There is actually no new Power Cap.”
He adds: “Technically, you can infinitely increase with the seasonal artifact.”
Gear drops up to 960 Power Level – but that’s not the end
This is how Powerful Loot behaves in Shadowkeep: When Shadowkeep launches on October 1st, you all start with a Power Level of 750.
By playing activities, earning and infusing loot, you gradually rise in Power Level in Destiny 2.
- With Powerful Gear, you can reach a Power Level of 950.
- Through pinnacle activities like the raid, it even goes up to a maximum of 960 Power Level.
If you now level up the seasonal artifact, you can exceed this Power limit for your weapons and armor pieces. This information has recently been posted on the official Bungie page for Shadowkeep.
According to them, you can use the artifact to “overcome impossible challenges.”
The information that one can even increase power “limitlessly” with the artifact comes from Wommack in the interview with IGN.
He further adds that it is questionable whether one can really manage to increase power “infinitely” – after all, the day only has 24 hours. But if you invest a lot of time in Destiny 2, you can continue to rise.
How quickly this ascent is possible and how it then affects activities like the Iron Banner, where Power Level differences are crucial, remains to be seen.
Update: There is a limit to “unlimited” power after all.
What is the artifact anyway? As part of Armor 2.0, a new armor slot for an artifact is being added. With this artifact, you unlock seasonal benefits. That it can also boost power was previously unknown.
Game Director Luke Smith explained last week that Shadowkeep will introduce “Pinnacle Powerful Sources” – sources through which you can obtain powerful pinnacle loot. These are supposed to be the only sources to obtain gear drops over 950 in Season 8. This includes the raid and presumably also the highest difficulty level of the Nightmare Hunts – a new endgame activity.
Further sources are not yet known – one or two PvP activities will certainly fall under this as well.
