Destiny 2 wants new and experienced Guardians to be able to play together as quickly as possible. Therefore, all players will be set to the same level at the start of Shadowkeep and New Light. There is also some advice from Bungie.
Where does the info come from? Franchise Director Luke Smith has now published the second part of his “Director’s Cut” blog. In it, he talks about the so-called power progression, among other things. You can find out how this starts with the new content in autumn here.
Whether veteran or newcomer – This is how you start in Shadowkeep and New Light: Whether you continue playing Destiny 2 in autumn, return with the Shadowkeep expansion, or possibly start fresh with the free-to-play version New Light – all Guardians will start the new content at the same power level.
Specifically, this means: With the release of Shadowkeep and Destiny 2: New Light
- all Guardians will be set to power level 750 – so to the maximum power level before Shadowkeep.
- each individual item in the game will be automatically raised to power level 750 – including all items in the vault and inventory.
Bungie itself describes this as a kind of global infusion for all players – a further development of the previous system, with which you could quickly reach the necessary power level for the new content at the beginning of a season.
Why this decision? Shadowkeep is intended to usher in a new era for Destiny 2 and Bungie wants all Guardians to experience the start of this new era together. There should be as few barriers as possible between friends or players.
Because a different power level can quickly mean “We have different goals, so we won’t play together” – according to Bungie. A player with power level 10 would normally first play other content before he could finally play with his experienced Guardian friend who recommended the game to him. That is exactly what Bungie wants to prevent with this step.
This tip should be heeded by active players: Since with the release of Shadowkeep along with all your equipment, you will automatically be set to power level 750, you can (or should) henceforth refrain from infusion. Or at least consider carefully if the respective item is really worth it.
This way, you can save a lot of resources that you can use at a later time. Moreover, it might be worth waiting for the patch notes on the new content to decide which equipment to infuse. Because according to Bungie, a lot of buffs are on the way, but they do not want to reveal anything about it at the moment.
