In Destiny 2, the Season of the Wanderer has begun. With the new content came new lore that seems to suggest that players are suspects in the murder of Cayde-6.
Why is there an investigation? In the Season of the Wanderer, everything in Destiny 2 revolves around the titular Gambit leader. While players are excited that the mysterious guy has brought a new competitive mode to the Tower, other Guardians are skeptical.
In the new lore published by Bungie for the new season on their website, a Warlock of the Praxic Order attempts to have the Wanderer banished from the Last City. Warlock Aunor goes so far as to investigate the death of Cayde-6 with the help of our characters!

Why should the Wanderer disappear? Warlock Aunor is trying in the new lore to convince the city’s leaders to remove the Wanderer from the Tower immediately. In their opinion, the Gambit leader poses a danger as great as that from Ghaul or the Taken King, Oryx.
The Wanderer would normalize interactions with the Taken. Some Guardians might have even turned rogue under the Wanderer’s influence and assumed the title ‘Dredgen’.
According to Aunor, the Wanderer is causing the Guardians to use the Taken as a weapon against other Guardians. And supposedly with the goal of killing their opposing Guardians.

Have Guardians died? While Zavala insists that no Guardians have died without returning, the lore proves the opposite: The Wanderer hires a team of Guardians to test his latest creation, Gambit Prime.
Three Guardians lost their lives during the test, and the Wanderer didn’t even flinch. Instead, he used the data from this test run to further adjust and improve the new mode.
Why should our Guardian be a murderer? After Aunor hits a brick wall with the city’s leaders regarding the banishment of the Wanderer, she checks the data from Cayde’s ghost to see if our Guardian had anything to do with the death of the Hunter leader.

In the end, Aunor cannot prove any involvement from our Guardian. However, the fact that the Warlock conducted an investigation has also been noticed by the Wanderer, who enjoys eavesdropping on the city’s leaders in various disguises.
That the Gambit leader gets wind of the investigation was even intentional: Aunor is one of Ikora’s hidden agents. The two Warlocks know exactly that the Wanderer loves to hang around different places, gathering information about the events in the Tower.
What this means for the Tower, the Wanderer, or our Guardian is still not clear.
