The “Hunger” represents a dark force in the PvP MMORPG Crowfall that devours entire worlds. This power plays an important role in the game’s story.
Hunger is not a good thing
What is the Hunger? The Hunger is a kind of counterbalance to the gods of the game universe. It is a mysterious, dark power that annihilates entire worlds. It appears in two forms:
- The Infestation – The “Dying Worlds” that you visit in Crowfall are gradually infected by the Hunger. This is shown by black, icy crystals that appear and spread everywhere. All trees, stones, ore veins, buildings, and more in the vicinity are affected. You can no longer mine resources as they become frozen. The land becomes barren. With the Spirit Tool, you fight this infection and can temporarily destroy the crystals, returning the land to its original state – until the Hunger appears again.
- The Corruption – The Hunger affects the land and living beings. Creatures infected by the Hunger transform into horrific beasts that attack you at night. Even normally peaceful animals become monsters. Corrupted beings are, however, susceptible to sunlight. If you survive until morning, the light of the sun will destroy these creatures. If animals are near a heat source, it is possible for them to escape the corruption.
The Hunger cannot be stopped. Even if you can fight the Hunger in the campaign worlds, it is not possible to stop it completely. At some point, the crystals will spread so far that they cannot be contained anymore, until the entire world is lost. Then the campaign ends, and you return to your Eternal Kingdom.
Hunger crystals also have advantages. However, the Hunger is not only bad. When you destroy the crystals, there is a chance that you will find “Hunger Shards.” These items are useful:
- They help you with crafting
- You can plant a “Banewood” tree with a Hunger Shard, which you need to start a siege.
The PvP MMORPG Crowfall has recently been postponed to 2019.
