Call of Duty is coming to Germany and bringing zombies. Next week, Season 4 will bring the zombie map ‘Mauer der Toten’ to Black Ops Cold War and tells a zombie story set around the Iron Curtain in Berlin.
Update July 8: ‘Mauer der Toten’ will be available on July 15. Call of Duty presents a 2-minute trailer to get you in the mood:
Original Report: What’s happening with CoD? Next week on Thursday, July 15, the new mid-season update for Season 4 might go live and bring new content for Cold War and Battle Royale Warzone. The date is not confirmed, but at least part of the content is already known. Developer Treyarch indirectly confirmed the new zombie map ‘Mauer der Toten’ for the mid-season.
This is a large survival map for the zombie mode. You must grill undead and solve Easter eggs and quests on the side. Since the current timeline of Call of Duty is set in the 1980s, the backstory allows for a visit to the Berlin Wall during the DDR regime. And this is exactly what CoD apparently wants to offer its players. There’s already a short video teaser for this:
Mauer der Toten: Release for Mid-Season Confirmed
When is the new zombie map coming? The information from developer Treyarch is “Season 4” and “July”. Therefore, a release with the mid-season update is currently likely, which usually appears quite precisely in the middle of a season. This would be July 15 – next Thursday. Some observant viewers claim to have also seen July 15 on teaser images for ‘Mauer der Toten’.
What can I expect on ‘Mauer der Toten’? Like the other two survival maps in the zombie mode ‘Die Maschine’ and ‘Firebase Z’, the new map offers you a large, zombie-infested area that unleashes hordes of the undead on you and tells a story. With each wave, the zombies get stronger – hitting harder and taking more damage.
Through hidden puzzles, you will learn more about the background of the zombie attack and strengthen your weapons and gear to cope with the nasty zombies. This time, it’s set just around the corner – the story takes place in East Berlin and includes parts of the former Berlin Wall. The video teaser also shows scenes in a subway tunnel and a border checkpoint, which might also pull in the western part of the city into the mess.
New Zombie Map Brings Fresh Perk and Wonder Weapons
What new perk is coming? Developer Treyarch recently showed the ‘Mule Kick’ on Twitter:
In previous zombie modes of Call of Duty, the perk allowed you to carry one more weapon. And this time, the perk soda will likely give you another weapon. The label shows three pistols side by side in the middle of the can and generally many firearms firing in all directions.
What’s the information about the wonder weapon? The developers also published blueprints for possible wonder weapons on Twitter:
The device in the left picture is called CRBR-S and seems to be a customizable wonder weapon. The weapon could possibly be reconfigured into different versions. There are speculations that you can use the wonder weapon to launch projectiles from zombies. In an earlier leak, this weapon was called ‘Mega-Barrel’.
The right picture shows the ‘LT 53 Kazimir Prototype’. The descriptions on the blueprint suggest it is a portal device that opens a gateway to the ‘Dark Aether’. Some might remember the ‘Gersh Device’ – that was a grenade in previous zombie modes that created a small singularity, sucked in zombies, and randomly teleported players across the map. However, it could also be the case that the device is only part of the story.
A deeper insight into the speculations along with the leaks can be found with the English YouTuber ‘Matterz’ (via YouTube).
More specific information and a complete trailer for ‘Mauer der Toten’ are coming soon. The developers emphasized in an English blog post that the release of the trailer will not take long (via callofduty.com).
The zombie excursion to Berlin is an exciting change for German fans. You shouldn’t expect to recognize a street, but a German location can definitely be motivating.
If you also want to try your hand at the zombie mode of Black Ops Cold War, then best to start on the map ‘Die Maschine’ first. You can find a comprehensive beginner’s guide with the most important mechanics of the zombie mode here.
