An objective in Baldur’s Gate 3, whether you and your party of characters are inclined to good or evil, is to search for allies who will support you in the final battle of the game. However, those who can forgo one of them will be rewarded with a rare gift.
What must one do for the gift? To receive the rare surprise, you must successfully rescue the tieflings of the druid grove in the first act of the game. An important aspect is that especially their leader Zevlor must remain alive after the confrontation with the goblins.
In the second act, you will sooner or later find yourself in the mind flayer colony, which you will reach via the towers of the dawn. There, you will encounter the capsules where unfortunate prisoners can be turned into mind flayers. One of them contains Zevlor, where you can eventually decide to free him. However, to receive the gift, you must choose to abandon Zevlor here.

A Grotesque Kind of Thanks
What is the secret gift? If you leave Zevlor to his fate in the capsule without eliminating him, someone else will do it in their own “special” way. After you have taken three long rests in the third act of the game, a special greeting from Orin will appear in your camp.
It is the painting of Orin herself, depicting her murder of Zevlor. The description of the painting reads: ‘Depicted with magnificent artistry, great blood clots seem to spray, drip, and splatter like wine from drunken lips, the violence is impeccable, the convoluted quality sublime.’
In front of the painting itself lies Zevlor’s lifeless body.
What does Zevlor’s body reveal? If you master the spell “Speak with Dead” or have the appropriate scroll ready, you can use it on Zevlor’s corpse. This way, you will learn from him that he was used as a sacrifice and that Orin is located beneath the city.
Should one rather save Zevlor? If you are less interested in art and prefer to have a living ally by your side for the final battle, you should rather choose to save Zevlor in the mind flayer colony. He will take down enemy opponents along with his hell riders and support allies at the front lines.
