In Pokémon GO, some former trainers are currently receiving emails with gift codes. This is causing criticism.
What is happening in Pokémon GO? Currently, there is a critical mood among many Pokémon GO players, as the popular remote raid passes have become more expensive and a limit of 5 remote raids per day has been set.
As a result of this decision, parts of the community have clearly expressed their anger, started a petition against the changes, and in some cases called for a boycott of the game. Many players, especially those without a local community, rely on remote raids, is one of the arguments of an open letter to the developers.
However, so far there are no signs that the changes could be reversed. Accordingly, some players have uninstalled the game, or at least no longer log in.
Some of these players are now apparently receiving an email with a gift code for the game. This is shared by users in the Pokémon GO subreddit.
Gift code arrives by email but receives criticism
What are these emails? In the Pokémon GO subreddit, some players are currently sharing that they are receiving emails from Pokémon GO with a personal promo code.
This is supposed to unlock a “mysterious gift” once entered in the game. Such emails are apparently received if one has not been active in the game for a long time (via dotesports).
However, the promo code does not necessarily go down well. For instance, user “RebelSpeed” posted on reddit that he has not played since the day the remote passes became more expensive. Now the code has arrived, but RebelSpeed says: “That’s not how you get my attention, Niantic, try harder.”
Another user, DroQi09, posted a similar gift but also said: “I received a ‘We miss you’ code. You will miss my data and € too,” he writes.
In the comments, some players also show dissatisfaction with the emails. They actually desire larger changes and believe that a code like this would not be sufficient to bring them back to the game.
- “I received the same email a few hours ago. I won’t come back,” writes a user (via reddit).
- “The only email that will bring me back is the one saying that the remote raid changes are being reversed,” says another user (via reddit)
- “The only thing I’m doing in the game right now is sending a weekly boatload of shinies and legendaries to Home,” comments one (via reddit).
- “I have the same experience now. I haven’t touched the game since the raid pass changes were implemented, and I don’t plan to come back until something significant changes. I loved this game, but I hate the direction it has taken. A few pity Pokeballs won’t change that” (via reddit).
In the comments, some point out that one could redeem the code via the website without opening the game. However, some also write that they could give the codes to someone who still plays. However, the codes are account-bound.
