A new shooter has been released with Project Tower on Steam and PS5. In it, you fight your way out of an alien prison, taking on the form of your tormentors.
What kind of game is this? Project Tower is a shooter with bullet-hell battles similar to Returnal. In contrast, however, Project Tower is not a roguelike, but a linear action-adventure. The game aims to tell a dark sci-fi story.

On the run from aliens, you become one yourself
What is Project Tower about? The remnants of humanity are under the yoke of the Hiks, an extraterrestrial species. As a prisoner, you participate in the eponymous “Project Tower,” which is supposed to bring you freedom. However, to achieve this, you must fight your way to the top of a tower.
On your way up, alien creatures will block your path, which you can even transform into thanks to your morph ability. Thus, you can crawl through small openings as an alien worm or choose a form that deals more damage.
In boss battles, the battlefield becomes a bullet hell: enemies fire a multitude of projectiles that you must skillfully dodge. These battles already look well staged and offer a considerable challenge in the trailer.
A good story shooter with room for improvement
How is the shooter being received so far? Project Tower currently has very few reviews on Steam. Overall, the game is rated “positive,” although there is still room for improvement.
- The melee combat is said to feel really good, while firearms are still lacking that punch
- The morphing is a cool unique feature, although many forms differ only in a few aspects
- The story is highlighted positively by many, but with around 5 hours of gameplay, it is relatively short
Where can I get the game? Project Tower was released on January 6, 2025, for PC on Steam and on PS5 and costs €24.50 for PC and €24.99 on PS5. Until January 13, there is a 20% discount on Steam, where you can also find a free demo of the game.
The fight of humanity against an extraterrestrial threat can also look different, as shown by Helldivers 2 – coming soon not only as a game but also in cinemas. You can read more about this here: Helldivers 2 captivated thousands of players on Steam and PS5, now it is set to continue in cinemas
