Fishing is an integral part of many video games. In countless titles, you can pull fish or other treasures from the water on the side. In a new role-playing game on Steam, you do everything with the fishing rod, whether it’s exploring or defeating bosses. At our FYNG show at CAGGTUS 2025, a release date for Nice Day for Fishing has finally been announced.
What kind of game is this? At first glance, Nice Day for Fishing looks like a normal 2D RPG in pixel art style. This fits with the story of the game: You are the hero who must defeat evil.
After a terrible event, the city of Honeywood exists only in ruins. To rebuild the city and defeat evil, Baelin must embark on an adventure. The special thing about it is: Everything is done with the fishing rod.
The new information about the game was presented at this year’s Find Your Next Game show at CAGGTUS 2025.
Whether fighting or exploring: You do everything with the fishing rod
Why is the fishing rod so important? In Nice Day for Fishing, the fishing rod is not just a tool but the central game element. As seen in the trailer, you can move your character in the overworld, but exploration takes place underwater.
Instead of diving like in Dave the Diver, you use your fishing rod to navigate through the underwater world. Fish are not simply caught; it is a fight where you have to block, parry, and attack.
As is typical in role-playing games, you level up your character through fights and completed quests, and stats play an important role in combat. Additionally, there are spells and upgrades for your fishing rod.
Collecting enthusiasts can not only partake in heroism but also collect various fish to gain upgrades.
When will Nice Day for Fishing be released? As part of the FYNG CAGGTUS 2025, the German developer FusionPlay announced that the game will be released on May 29, 2025. You can then play it on PC, Nintendo Switch, and PS5.
If you happen to be at this year’s CAGGTUS from April 11 to April 13, you can play the latest demo of the game on-site. The CEO of FusionPlay, Konrad Kunze, will also give presentations there.
MeinMMO, GameStar, and GamePro will also be present at CAGGTUS, showcasing not only new games but also other formats related to the theme. You can see what will be included and the plan for the next few days here: FYNG live from CAGGTUS
