If someone finds a particularly cool spot for a line in Skate, they want to perfect it as undisturbed as possible. Players on Steam are now starting to annoy others by exploiting a good feature.
How do they annoy fellow players? In Skate, you don’t ride alone through the game world, but share it with many other skaters. This not only leads to long waiting times during peak hours but also brings the first annoying players who want to take the fun away from others.
A feature in Skate allows players to place their own ramps, grind rails, and objects anywhere in the game world. The idea is good: players should be able to modify their own skateparks and build perfect lines.
But the first trolls have discovered this feature. They place benches or small grind rails in front of popular ramps in the game. Any player who then tries to skate the ramp falls. While the trolls rob others of their fun, there is a simple way to make the obstacles disappear.
You can see what the trolls look like here on Reddit:
Make obstacles disappear
How to make the obstacles disappear? To make the players’ obstacles vanish into thin air, the developers have made provisions. Not only can individual players be blocked and their structures hidden, but general settings for quick builds can also be adjusted.
Players can set who’s quick builds they want to see and feel. For this, they open the general menu, go to the “Social and Spectate” button, and then to settings. The very first option controls the quick builds of other players.
This way, quick builds from all players, only from friends and group members, or even only their own quick builds can be displayed.
How do players react to the trolls? Although the new Skate has only been available for a short time, trolls are not a rare occurrence. As seen in the video above, there are always people who take the fun away from others.
This also annoys players on Reddit who cannot understand how players can spend 2 or 3 hours of their lives taking fun away from others. On the other hand, players greatly appreciate the option to disable foreign builds and therefore do not understand why not everyone simply turns it on and continues skating instead of being upset about the problem.
A player reports on Reddit that trolls are banned for such actions. He himself had several players banned during the alpha test by reporting their activities and would not feel bad about it.
The developers have already given every player the means to defend themselves against trolls, even if they somewhat hid the settings for it. That an innovative feature can also be abused is, however, nothing new: The biggest troll in the history of WoW has eliminated 35 characters and 10,000 hours of gameplay
