This is how the developers came up with dragon riding: In an article on the website of the development studio, developer Peter Kojesta reports that Dragonhold represents something personal for him. In 2013, he broke his spine and was unable to walk.
He dreamed of what it would be like to walk again. Then he fantasized about flying. “When you are restricted and staring at the ceiling, flying is the greatest freedom you can imagine. And what is the most powerful creature in the sky? A dragon, of course,” says Peter Kojesta (via exisgames.com).
He recovered, but the “desire for cool forms of movement” never left him. He wanted to make his dream of flying come true and share it with others. So he worked on Dragonhold.
When will Dragonhold be released? So far, no release date has been announced; on Steam it says “coming soon.” However, you can add Dragonhold to your wishlist to be informed about an upcoming release.
